My story.
I noticed that my hair was thinning out on top, in my early 40`s, it happened quite rapidly which came as a shock. Whilst there is baldness in my family I`d always had thick wavy hair, it looked like I was going to avoid balding gene. Unfortunately I succumbed to it.
I went down the usual route trying laser therapy and every natural remedy out there. Needless to say none of them worked until I tried Proscar, I suffered some mild side effects for 3 weeks until my body adjusted, then I was fine. Been using Proscar (now Finasteride) for 2 years, my hair loss has stabilized with some improvement.
2014 I researched online into Hair Transplant procedures. I decided against the strip method as it seemed to be very intrusive, plus if I did continue to lose more hair down the line I ran the risk of a strip scar on show, so I decided to go for FUE.
I went for several consultations. Looked into Turkey and India which were very appealing due to the cost savings, however I narrowed it down to two doctors in the UK. Unfortunately a month before my surgery date I was made redundant, this put a spanner in the works as I`d recently taken out a new home mortgage. Long story short, I had to cancel my surgery as I needed to money to pay the bills. I found employment 6 months later, a good job with good pay. Took a while to get back to my feet but I got there.
Early 2016 I decided its time to start the ball rolling again. I got in touch with the two clinics, both were very professional and helpful. I was told the doctor who I consulted with had left and set up his own clinic in Portsmouth, I couldn't believe my luck as I live 3 miles away. I looked online and found The Maitland Clinic, gave them a call and got a consultation appointment 3 weeks later.
Appointment day arrived. I went there with butterflies in my stomach, the excitement at the prospect of having my hair restored was a great feeling. Arrived at the clinic, after a short wait Dr. Ball came and greeted me, we then went to his consultation room where he checked my hair and explained everything in precise detail. I`d already made my mind up I was going to book, his professionalism reaffirmed I was in good hands.
Surgery day arrived end of March. Again I was very excited arriving at the clinic, this time my wife accompanied me for some moral support. Dr. Ball greeted the both of us, then we had a pre op consultation to go over everything. I received 2100 fue grafts in what I can only describe as a walk in the park, there was a little discomfort having the anaesthetic, once it kicked in I never felt a thing. By 5pm the surgery was complete, Dr. Ball went over the post op instructions, then took me back to my wife. My wife couldn`t believe how good it looked, she looked good too, apparently there is a beauty treatment place nearby so she treated herself to a makeover.
It`s now 4 weeks after my surgery, everything has healed except it`s still reddish in the transplanted area. This I know may take some time to fade with my pale skin type. I`m very happy how everything went, everyone at the clinic were first class. Now I just have to wait for things to happen.
I`d recommend to anybody out there with hair loss to at least consult with The Maitland Clinic, you won`t be disappointed.
