I started noticing hair loss at my temples when I was 21 whilst at university, this was a gradual slow process until I reached 30, at this point I decided to use minoxidil to combat the hair loss. I found this quite effective for 2 years or so, but then I noticed my skin was becoming dry and irritated, but also it seemed that the wrinkles on my forehead were becoming worse. Therefore I decided to stop using this and try something else. I then used finasteride for 2 months which also seemed to be effective and my hair seemed thicker, however due to side effects I stopped using this.

At 33, I started to look into having a hair transplant and carried out research, at this point I came across a food supplement called Keratene Retard which is supposed to reduce DHT and prevent further hair loss. I have been using this ever since with minimal side effects and seems to be effective, however I have noticed occasional gut problems such as mild bloating although I cant be sure if KR is responsible. Over the last year I have also been using a hair topical called weleda hair oil which is fortified with rosemary oil, this also seems to be working well.

This year I decided to take the plunge with having a FUE treatment at Pro Hair, initially had contact with Bart who is very friendly and informative. I forwarded photos of my hair loss and he suggested possible treatment plan which was 1500-2000 grafts. On the day of treatment which was at Beauclinic in Holland I met with Sabine who was carrying out the treatment. Sabine advised that I would need 1600 grafts in the frontal clinic which would be ~40grafts per cm2. Sabine also suggested that I might need a further treatment as the hair on my mid scalp is thinning.

The whole treatment was carried out within the day, everything went smoothly and Sabine and the team were very friendly. Also no pain at all throughout the treatment. These photos ive attached are from the day of treatment. I will update my progress throughout the next few months. I have noticied since having the treatment that shedding of my normal hair has drastically increased all over the scalp which I am slightly concerned about, although hopefully this will stabilize soon.

How long have you been using the KR? I see your hair loss has progressed quite far back with thinning in the crown. Did you notice if one area thinned quicker than another?

I've been using KR for about 2 years, since using it I feel that my hair loss has been stable. I noticed my front hair line receding 13 years ago, the thinning started about 6 years ago and at this time I noticed my crown thinning as well, although it's not really changed much for the last 4 years or so. However I did notice some loss of density after stopping minoxidil.

Hi Adam. Welcome to the forum. 1600 will give you a new hairline and some density behind.
Are you planning on having more grafts at a later date to fill in further back?
Thanks BM.

Thanks BM, yeah will definitely look at having another procedure done. Will wait to see the results of this one and will then look at thickening up the mid scalp and crown, may need the scalp to be fully shaved on the next one 🙈

Sounds like a plan. Hopefully the Keratene Retard works in those areas.

Thanks SADbutTRUE, just to give an update, this is a picture from day 16. All the crusts had gone by day 11, the transplanted hair seems to be growing, and expecting it to shed in the next few days. No itching or pain.

All looks nice and clean. The redness lingers for a while in most patients, aloe vera gel sometimes helps to heal and sooth it.

5 week update...I've been in the Caribbean for the past two weeks, since being away I notified more shedding, there's still newly planted grafts there although they don't seem to be growing in length too much. Going for a hair cut tomorrow as the hair behind the grafts is growing way too long and the comb-over is looking way too obvious now 🙈

Hi Adam

Still hanging onto some of the transplanted grafts I see , they are well bedded now my friend dont be afraid to give that area a little more pressure when washing even use small circle motions but dont force them to come off , everything looks good its really going to blend in nice with your native hair all the best mate and thanks for updating

Hi guys just to give you an update, the results have been good so far. After 2 months the transplanted hair shed at the temples, although the transplanted hair at the front centre remained, this stayed at about an inch long and stayed the same for another 3 months or so, I believe some of the hairs then started growing again whilst others fell out. The temples started growing hair again after 3 months or so and gradually got thicker. At almost 8 months the hair is mostly an even length now.
I would definitely say that the experience is worth the result, and I feel much more confident about my hair. I €™m considering having a possible second treatment done to add some density maybe next year. I also started using topical finasteride through H+W, made by an Italian pharmacy, been using this for about 4 months and believe it €™s helping to slow down the hair loss.

Your hair looks good Prohair have done a good job for you.
I enjoyed reading your posts dude, not only for the obvious updates regarding your transplant, but also for your info on KR as there aren't many posts regarding the use of this supplement for an extended period of time.......good to hear it's helped stabilise your loss.
Thanks for the updates pal.
