From Gollum to Samson; How my FUE hair transplant changed my life

First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Jonny and I recently turned 30 years old. Like many men I struggled with male pattern baldness and from the age of about 22 my hair aggressively receded. Despite shaving it very close in an attempt to make it less obvious, it was clear that by my mid-to-late 20s I would be completely bald. I started wearing hats, spent less time in pubs / socialising and quickly lost a lot of my confidence. Around this time I also lost my job. I was 27 years old, living my mum and buying my shoes in Marks & Spencers. There wasn €™t a hell of a lot going right.
Taking corrective action was never something I considered realistic until I stumbled upon an article in the Daily Mail about a guy in Glasgow who had a 16 hour long hair transplant with Dr. Lupanzula. It was a first for Glasgow and Scotland. The patient (Scott) has written a blog about his experiences and I followed it religiously hoping to see miraculous results. His results are phenomenal.

I met Dr Lupanzula in May 2013 and agreed to approximately 3,500 grafts FUE to re-establish a hairline and fill the frontal region. Within a handshake I had decided on putting my trust in the Dr and the following December I underwent my first hair transplant at Medikemos Hair Transplant clinic in Brussels, Belgium. I had my first hair transplant in December 2013 with a final total of 3,250 FUE (and 273 BHT FUE test where he took hair from my face!)

Perhaps because I am relatively young my body took to the grafts immediately and I had considerable growth within 3 months. At the 6 month stage I had more hair than I knew what to do with and my first hair style in 10 years. Without hesitation I booked a second transplant with Dr Lupanzula to fill the crown region, almost a year to the day from my first operation. My second operation was a total of 2,330 FUEs.

I have included pictures before and after the operations. Unfortunately I wasn €™t so good at tracking progress on a monthly basis, but hopefully the difference is still impressive. The final pictures below were taken in July and I have continued to have growth in the crown region since.
It is now just over a year since my second operation, two years after my first, and the difference in my hairline, density, appearance, confidence and outlook on life is unrecognisable from pre-op. This extra confidence has allowed me to follow my dreams of living and working in Singapore for a company I have always wanted to be a part of. I €™m not sure the person I was pre-transplant would have the self-belief to make it happen.
It might sound clichéd, but Dr Lupanzula has completely changed my life.

Hi Jonnyo, nice write up on your HT experience. Your result looks very good, it's changed your appearance giving you a younger look and to hear your confidence has benefited is great. You received a good amount of grafts in both surgeries and the result speaks for itself.
All the best and thanks for joining.
Bm.

Thanks guys. I am really pleased, obviously.

I had originally tried to hide if from as many people as possible out of embarrassment, but they were all really supportive (they only found out when I returned home in bandages).

A few of my follicley challenged friends have been asking to the minute detail and followed me on every step of my journey.

I now shout it from the rooftops. I'm really proud of what can be done and the attitudes that are changing towards male cosmetic / corrective surgery.

Hi JonnyO,
Thank you for sharing your experience. Your final results photos look outstanding! Both the coverage of your result and the donor zone after the fact look impeccable. Congratulations!

You have every reason to be proud of the transformation in your hair and confidence achieved. When the results from hair transplants were unnatural, it was easy to see why people felt ashamed and didn't want people to know what happened but with so many clinics producing natural results, there's no reason to hide it any more. It looks like Dr. Lupanzula did a bang up job on you. Good luck with your move to Singapore!
