Hello everyone, question is for any patient reps or people that transition from hairpiece to Hairtransplant . Can u still wear hairpiece after grafts shed untill the transplanted hair grows in,i dont wear a piece but thought would it be possible to wear one untill grafts grow. This would eliminate the ugly duckling stage.

It really comes down to the individual to a degree but probably best to just bite the bullet and remove the hairpiece prior to the hair transplant and don ´t look back. You have the cleaning and hygiene issues to consider also, washing your grafts and scalp to maintain a clean environment. There is also the transition between the two, depending on the hair transplant technique you may need to shave some or all your hair anyway so the hairpiece may not blend. Then there is the general change in your look, in my experience this can be hard for hairpiece wearers to make and better to just take the leap and remove the hairpiece rather than think you can slowly phase it out.

Hi Sad,
I'm going off the assumption that you'd have a strip (fut) procedure so the hairs at the sides and back would be kept long. It's best NOT to wear a hair system after a ht as the recipient area basically needs to breathe. I know some systems claim to be feather light that allow one's scalp to breathe but there are patients who ended up getting subpar results.

4 awesome repairs with SMG
I know the ugly duckling phase is an issue that many people fear...myself included as i dreaded it. BUT i got to say dude honestly it wasn't as bad as i first feared, yes it can be a bit of an emotional roller coaster true, but it does go quickly if you have things to take your mind off of it.
In the grand scheme of things it isn't that long a time and after spending a large amount of money on a HT it just wouldn't be worth the risk to damage all the work and effort that's gone into it imo.
Good question though i totally see your thinking behind it;)

I personally would not wear a piece after a hair transplant. Some of the modern ones are very good but I`d only use one if I wasn`t having a hair transplant.
How did your consults go in New York?
Hope you are ok too.

Sup everyone ,thanks for the responses, Janna , i had a consult with SMG,a few years ago, i wanted to take meds for a year stabilize loss, then have hairtransplant, i was excited after consult knowing its possible to restore the front ,then my dad took ill n passed , soon after my mom took ill with stage 4 lung cancer,i was took care of her untill she passed sept 13 , i had to put my hair issues on hold to be there for my parents,my hairloss is stabilize n i havent lost any ground , only difference is i have more white hair, so now i started to begin having consult with different clinics , i plan to have HT in fall. ....bigmac, ive been on vacation recently n consult with true n dorin will be very soon. Since im from nj, they are very close to where i live,,...bullitnut...I think most people are concerned with post op phase ,thought wearing a piece may be a good idea untill grafts grow, ...My top choice is SMG, dr cooley ,dr konior, want to see what true n dorin have to say, .Thats all for now guys, ill update as time goes by , take care everyone.

Yes, I recall speaking with you. So sorry about about losing both your parents. I'm glad you haven't lost any ground in losing more native hairs.
Best of luck in choosing a clinic for your procedure. Hope you keep us updated on what you do.

Good luck with the consult, maybe go to Dr Wesley too if accessible to you. It`ll do no harm in having a few consults.
