There are many different reasons to get a nose job, or rhinoplasty. Maybe you were born with a deviated septum and have breathing difficulties.

Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Rhinoplasty is operated both for aesthetic and functional objectives and it is one of the most preferred operations in our country. It is performed in order to restore the nose deformities, to give the nose a natural and aesthetic appearance and to solve breathing problems. It is called as functional nose remodelling and it aims to solve breathing problems while giving the nose an aesthetic appearance. Futhermore, this treatment solves problems such as curvatures, fractures, cracks and deformities caused by accidents, strikes and injuries.
How is rhinoplasty decided on?
Targeted patients of the rhinoplasty are people who are not content with the appearance of their noses. This treatment can be administered to solve the problems such as curvatures, fractures, cracks and deformities caused by accidents, strikes and injuries. First step of this treatment is medical examination. The patient expresses his/her complaints and needs, and then the doctor determines the problems of the nose. After the medical examination, the kind of ameliorations is decided. Suitability of the targeted nose structure for the patient is related to the aspects such as face type, weight, features, distance between the eyes and the distance between the nose and chin. Thanks to the special softwares the suitable nose structure is viewed on the computer screen and then the doctor and the patient decides on surgery.
How is rhinoplasty administered?
Rhinoplasty is administered in two different ways as open and closed. Open structure rhinoplasty enables the surgeon to operate visually and makes intervention to the middle nasal cartilage easy. As a result, it is the most preferred method. Regardless of the method, the decisions made during the medical examination are performed. The most preferred implementations can be listed as below;
  • Fixing the humped bones
  • Rasping the nose tip if it is longer than the usual
  • Fixing the intranasal elements
  • Reconstructing the cartilages if the patient has saddle nose
  • Restoring the lopsidedness
  • Lifting the nasal tip
  • Volumizing the nasal tip with injection if needed.
Amendments decided during the medical examination are performed and then the incisions are closed. What should patients avoid after rhinoplasty?
Postoperative period is as important as the operation process. The patient should protect his/her nose and be patient about the healing process. The wound should be dressed regularly; the painkillers, anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous pills should be taken as prescribed. The patient should not work out or sleep facedown for a while.
Who can have rhinoplasty?
People who have stable health status and can receive general anesthesia without having a problem can readily have rhinoplasty. Suitability of the patient for rhinoplasty is determined during the medical examination.
Are the results of rhinoplasty permanent?
The results of rhinoplasty are permanent. Revision operations can be performed if needed, after the tissues renew themselves.
How long does rhinoplasty take?
Rhinoplasty lasts for 1 or 2 hours generally.
When can the patient move on his/her social and business life?
The patient can be discharged from the hospital on the very day of the operation or the next day. After the operation, the patient may feel a dull ache which can be relieved by taking painkillers. If it is necessary, a nasal package can be used. It is not expected that purple spots or edemas around the eyes will be formed after this operation. If so, purple spots or edemas around the eyes will be lessened on the very next day of the operation. They will be absent in a week or two. The swelling also will be decreased slowly. Smoking before or after the operation is not advised because smoking slows down the healing process and causes breathing problems. It is advised to sleep by slightly lifting your head up and to apply cold compress in order to prevent inflation and empurpling. Nasal cast is removed by the doctor within a week approximately. But sometimes it stays more than a week.
