The Maitland Clinic - Strip scar video at 5 months

This video shows the donor strip scar of a 65 year old male patient at 5 months post op. He had undergone a hair transplant of 2750 grafts by strip method. The scar has healed well and, even on close inspection, is hard to find. Of course, a significant factor influencing scar appearance is the patient's innate healing ability.

This is a really good donor scar indeed. Do use the trichophytic closure technique at your clinic?

Thanks very much, shinytop. I use a modified trichophytic closure technique which I find gives a good balance of preservation of incision margin follicles, consistency of hair direction alignment and subtle thin scars. I am careful to advise patients to expect to wear their hair no shorter than grade 4 but some patients manage to wear their hair at grade 3 or 2. Even with consistent surgical technique, patients' scars can vary greatly, demonstrating the significant influence of skin characteristics on scar appearance.

I agree this is a nice closure....did you use staples or sutures for this patient.

Best wishes BN

Hi BN
I always use sutures, with a one or two layer closure depending on the patient. I find that sutures give me the most control when placing them between the hairs and at the correct depth to preserve the follicle bulbs. Patients tend to find them much more comfortable too.
