My story:I am a 27 year old woman. I have had a high forehead and an uneven hairline since I can think. It bothered me so I wanted to change something and went for 3500 graft hair transplant in January 2013 with Dr Devroye.
My HT:
I arrived at Brussel and went for pre op consultation with Dr Devroye. He and his team welcomed me heartly and we discussed the following procedure. On the next day the surgery started. Removing the strip was pain free, I was just shaking a bit because of the adrenaline but I didn't feel uncomfortable. My whole surgery lasted 12 hours with lunch break and the whole staff was very kind and caring. Dr. Devroye himself drove me to my hotel (hotel costs were deducted from surgery price) and gave me a little lunch packet too. Then I had to spray my grafts every 10-15 minutes with a spray they gave me. The first night was a bit uncomfortable but with all the medications I got, it was well manageable. On the next day I went back to the clinic where they were checking if everything was alright. Again very friendly and caring.
Evolution:
The first days I had a swelling which disappeared within 4-5 days and I didn't had any major pain. The only thing that was a bit painful, was that I got sore from sleeping in an upright position ( I did this longer than 7 days even though it wasn't necessary).
After 7-10 days the were crusts appearing. I told this the doctor and he said I should remove them gently with sweet almond oil. So did I. It was very easy and again no pain.
On day 14 my stitches got removed by my mom (she's a nurse). It was a bit painful but didn't last long so it was bearable.
Day 21-23 my grafts feel out.
Week 10 first hairs were sprouting out. The following months my hair grew fast and very strong. Stronger than my normal hair. They were darker, a bit dry, kinky and thick and in some places I wasn't totally happy with the density ( my density rate is 35-40 cm2. I was scared that this hair texture won't change and sent an email to Dr Devroye with pictures and my claim.
The doctor told me that this happens from time to time when mega sessions are carried out
And I should be patient and that the texture will change over time. Additional he offered me a small touch up to increase the density. At this time I was unsure about going for another ht because I first wanted my hair texture to change. I have to admit I was a bit sad, inpatient and pessimistic. But there was no Need to because the hair texture changed at month 14-15 just over night. Not all of my hair but in small steps my transplanted hair started to adapt the same texture as my normal hair. I was very happy about that and definitely wanted to go for a second ht to increastg density, so I drove to Brussel and met Dr Devroye for a consultation for my touch up.
He had a look at me and said he can offer me 600-800 grafts trying to get only singles for feathering my hairline and increasing the density. So my second hair transplant for increasing the density is following soon.
All in one I tried to keep my story short and objective but I want to emphasize the service of Dr Devroye and his team.
1. They always tried to be kind and welcoming. His assistants ms ducobu, ms parra and miss van Assche were always very quick and helpful with their replies ( and I had sooooo many never ending inpatient questions. Even though they remained to be very friendly all the time!!!! I think I'm kind of a annoying patient but they never made me feel like that. ) and they also stayed in frequent contact with me
2. Doctor Devroye proved to me that he really cares about his patients. When I was sad and claimed my worries about the structure and density, he wrote me a really caring email and tried to calm me down and invite me to see what he can do. He was really concerned and wanted me to help. Hats down for such a nice reaction from a doctor. I bet a lot of other doctors would have torn my claims away and left me alone. He didn't. he actually was covering my back. Thanks for that and also thank you Dr D. for the offer for the touch up.
From my whole experience I can just recommend Dr D. and his whole clinic. Pre care, surgery and post care was always nice. The hair grew very fast and continously. My donor scar healed super fast and additionally the numbness of my head weny away pretty fast. Except my emotional journey due to my PERSONAL inpatients there were no major happenings Therefore everything went smooth.
My result: actually it's good but since I m a perfectionist I really want to increase density because in some lighting its a bit see through. And I think not all of my grafts on the right temple sprout out as they should have. I don't think it's the doctors a fault or mine, I think it's because it was a mega session and maybe the blood supply didn't reach them. (There's always the risk in mega sessions) but again thank you Dr D. for offering me a touch up. From another female Devroye patient which I am in frequent contact with, I know that she didn't have any problems with kinky hair. So maybe it was just my case and luckily the problem was eased by time.
So that's my positive experience with Dr D.
I will add pictures shortly.
