Ron Shapiro, MD World-Renowned Expert, Educator and Author Dr. Shapiro has the unique distinction of being the first physician invited to perform a live surgery, demonstrating the technique of microscopic follicular unit transplantation for his peers, at the ISHRS Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1995. Since that time he has continued to be chosen every year to lecture and perform live surgical demonstrations at major national and international conferences. To date he has lectured at more than 40 conferences in more than 25 cities around the world. In 1997, Dr. Shapiro was one of the first physicians in the U.S. to become a Diplomat of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS). In the same year he was chosen to serve on the Board of Governors of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), the largest organization in the field of hair restoration surgery. Ron Shapiro, MD, Medical Director of Shapiro Medical Group is recognized around the world as a leader in the field of Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation. In 2003, he co-authored the major medical textbook, Hair Transplantation, 4th Edition (published by Marcel Dekker). This book is often referred to at the “Bible” of hair transplantation and is used by physicians all over the world. He is currently working on the new “5th Edition” scheduled to be released in early 2010. In 2005, Dr. Shapiro received the Golden Follicle Award from the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) during their annual meeting in Sydney, Australia. This prestigious award is given for outstanding contribution to the advancement of the clinical practice of hair transplantation surgery. In 2007, he was asked to the guest of honor and guest lecturer at the European Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ESHRS) for their 10th anniversary conference. The book, The Bald Truth (sold as “The First Complete Guide to Hair Loss”), established SMG’s physicians to be among the top 10 in the world performing and specializing in Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation. Dr. Shapiro is listed on a number of consumer websites and Internet blogs specializing in hair transplantation as one of the top physicians in his field. There are hundreds of posts by patients int eh discussion forums of these websites testifying to the skill of the physicians and the quality of the caring staff at SMG. Dr. Shapiro is currently on staff at the University of Minnesota - Department of Dermatology as an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Instructor and regularly gives lectures to residents about the procedure he performs. Hair transplant physicians from around the world come to Dr. Shapiro’s clinic not only to observe his technique but to have the procedure performed on them. bullitnut awesome repair with SMG

This guy is one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet, imo he has a heart made of solid gold, he quite simply saved my life through his skill, passion, geniune warmth and compassion, and his burning desire to do the very best for his patients he possibly can I appreciate this might sound over the top to some...... but not to me its geniunely how i feel because after living what i would describe as half life for over a decade, this man and his remarkable team agreed to help me despite the fact they new i was over 4000 miles away. Once there they all bent over backwards to accomodate me and it was blindingly obvious right from the first meeting when he spoke to me in his office that he knew exactly what to do, i immediately felt relieved i was with one of, if not the most skilled hair restoration physicians around today. Everything about the whole procedure was state of the art and simply blew me away. and he always made me feel that everything he did that day was done for my wellfare. You could tell his desire to put my horrible butcherings behind me was right at the forefront of his mind at all times and for that i am eternally grateful. Dr Ron and Dr paul Shapiro imo have raised the bar in hair restoration surgery today, with only a dozen or so elsewhere in the entire world that come anywhere close to their skill experience and knowledge of the hair restoration field. It was an honour and a pleasure to have gone there and one i wont ever forget.

Dear dr have u ever cone across strip patients who have 2 diffrent scars from strip procedure. I myself have 2 scars very poor results from ht procedures nerve damage and stretch mark god knows what i do next. yes i am scared to death how can a dr who is ishrs member just cut shit out of your head. I try everyday to do research i wish i had never chosen this path now i feel i am trapped what a waist. I would like to thank people who have helped get on this forum and find advice.

Bad Luck, Dr. Ron has seen and treated many repair cases. The best thing to do right now is to send out your photos - good, clear, quality photos of your head from front, two sides, top down shots as well as pics of your donor scars to 4 or 5 clinics to get their assessment and plan of action. We are sorry to hear about your poor prior work but hopefully you can get yourself repaired by a clinic you can trust. What part of the world are you from? j

Dr. Shapiro's results are always very impressive - you can tell he puts a lof of time and thought into designing and executing every patient's procedure in a personalized, professional manner - from what I've seen, his work is consistently of the highest quality.

Thank u very much for your conern's help and support i know smg is a great outfit. Do u do alot of repair work at smg fixing the work of butcher's my head is a mess it feel's like dartboard there's holes everywhere. I also have a huge scar where do u start ? i can't hide forever i live in OZ.
