Shapiro Medical FUE Procedure w/Unshaved Donor & Recipient

Here is a quick video of Shapiro Medical Group's FUE procedure with unshaved donor & recipient.

The video is very short but you get an idea of the process involved.

It certainly makes for a more tedious procedure to work with the long hairs surrounding each graft to be extracted. However, there seems to be a need for some patients who need a procedure that's undetectable soon after. They wouldn't consider going with the shaved look. Even if it was temporary.

We tried coming up with several names for this fue technique of not shaving

like, "Royal FUE", "Celebrity FUE" or "Non-shaved" or "Unshaved" or "Unshaven".

What's your vote? Let me know if you have any questions.

Presidential Fue.

Janna. Would I be able to have this if I require further work at some stage? I like the idea of not having to shave as I could return to work immediately.

Interesting Janna , so can you implant into areas with existing hair from previous FUE surgery ? or does the implant area need to be hair less ? in other words adding density ?

Sparky,

It is definitely more tedious so the session size would have to be lower to make sure the surgery is completed in appropriate amount of time.

Crudance,

Presidential is a good one. Yes, it's possible, we can do the unshaved donor and recipient but the cost for this procedure is a little more.

Sun123,

You mentioned that you weren't worried about the donor being shaved so you can do the normal FUE procedure of adding density to the recipient without cutting the native hairs. Just so the hair is blended from recipient to donor, you probably need to do a modified cut, such as a military look of longer hairs on top and shaved in the back.

Topcat,

S for Shapiro? Perhaps...... but Dr. Shapiro isn't quite so ego driven that he'd have to put his name on a technique.

Great video Janna, i like the presidential name too. I know it's unshaven but does its still have to be relativley short or can you do this on long hair?

Of course I was being facetious and I agree incorporating one €™s own name into a procedure always struck me as being pure ego with the only exception being if one actually invented it. What €™s even more interesting is that it usually comes from those with a fixed mindset. In their minds they are superior and should never be questioned which makes it difficult for them to work well with others. It can be seen with those clinics over the years that were unable to assemble a team that lasted any length of time and an important point for others to consider when researching.

My serious suggestion would be something simple and easily understood by just reading the title like €œno shave fue €, €œshaveless fue € or €œunshaven fue €

We can do this technique on long hairs - men or women with long hairs.

Sounds like a plan if I do decide to have more. I will be updating my thread shortly with a couple of pictures.

What's the largest amount of grafts you're prepared to do using this method? Also what are the risks of damaging existing grafts when planting into an unshaven recipient area?

Sorry, I didn't see your question......

At this time we'd say 1200 over two days. If a patient is easy extractions, then it could be more but I don't think we'd want to promise more than 1200.

The time consuming part is extracting with long hairs - planting into long hairs isn't as difficult. As long as there's space to make the incisions between existing hairs, there really isn't a risk. We've planted into recipient areas with long hairs for year.

1200 seems a good amount of grafts. If I were to have my donor area shaved down but no shaving of recipient what size session would you offer?

A lot would depend on how much space is between hairs in the recipient area but probably somewhere between 1500-2000.
