Numbing cream

Can anyone recommend which is a good numbing cream to use for SMP and how effective it is? I've heard of EMLA cream for tattoos but was put off using this for the tattoo on my forearm as I heard it can affect the quality of the tattoo as the skin is too greasy.
Would any cream like this affect how SMP is carried out? I would rather go through more pain than jeopardise the quality of work being done.
Alternatively what painkillers and strength could be recommended?

I would not use a topical anesthetic. It changes the texture of the skin and can cause pigment rejection. If you are very worried about pain I would go to a clinic that offers pain management under the supervision of a transplant doctor. As technicians, we cannot give recommendations on medication management.

Thanks Nicole. Yeah I don't want anything to affect the quality of work being done. Would rather just get through the pain if it meant a better job. Will see if anyone who has had the treatment can recommend the best painkillers. Thanks again.

I used EMLA cream before a body art tattoo, and you can see all the detail, crystal clear and crisp. I do not believe the EMLA compromised my result at all.

BUT.... I still wouldn't use it on my head. Any uncertainty whatsoever about compromising the result would be enough to convince me to stay away. Remember too, a clinic may insist that you invalidated your warranty, if you ever raised an issue and they found out about your EMLA cream.

Nicole is best placed to answer this one. I would go with her advice.

Final point - it really doesn't hurt that much... honest :)
