We went back to look at some of the most common or popular questions asked. To some, the answers may be obvious but to others not so. That is why it´s important when researching to ask a few Clinics their opinion. There are many misconceptions about hair loss. Maybe even more regarding surgical hair restoration. If you have your own question you can add it to the thread and it can help fellow forum users and hair loss sufferers with their personal research.

Q. It´s normal to shed 100-150 hairs per day?

A. - Shedding hair is all part of the natural cycle of hair growth. The number of hairs can vary but it´s not uncommon that over 100 hairs per day naturally shed. This can be very different to hair loss. As we replace the same number of hairs during this shedding cycle. If we begin to shed more hairs than regrow this can then lead to hair loss.

Q. Does a hair transplant cure hair loss?

A. - The basis of a hair transplant is the movement of genetically strong hair from one area to a new area. Male pattern baldness (MPB) is progressive. Genetics plays a large part in the ultimate hair loss pattern. The earlier hair loss starts can reflect how aggressively the pattern will mature over time. A hair transplant has no effect on the hair loss condition. Planning your hair restoration is an important factor. Considering the current and potential future hair loss pattern.

Q. How many hair transplants will I need, and can I have?

A. - This depends on the current hair loss pattern and the potential for future hair loss. So, your age and genetic history of hair loss would help as a guide. Then there are your natural hair characteristics and how well they can be used over the area of hair loss. Good donor characteristics with a well-planned hair restoration can treat advanced hair loss over multiple procedures on the right candidate.

Q. Do I need treatments to have a hair transplant?

A. – In some cases, a Doctor may insist on treatment to complement a hair transplant. But as treatment is arbitrary and cannot be consistently checked this is difficult to ensure. Depending on the hair loss stage can determine the importance of treatment. Minor hair loss and being able to maintain most of the hair would be sensible. Even advanced hair loss if the objective is to maintain areas from dropping further such as a crown or lateral humps. A combination of treatment and transplant can work well together and should be considered.

Q. Can I design my own hairline?

A. – yes and no. It´s important you feel part of the hair restoration process. It is your hair after all. Having a say and input into your hairline design is important. The hairline creation is often a compromise between Doctor and the client. Blending what will look natural and suit the bone structure to the client’s expectations and goals. Also thinking of future hair loss and not positioning the line too low.

These are just a very small selection of daily common questions asked. All are important and to be considered while researching hair restoration. Building up a comprehensive plan on how to tackle hair loss and understanding the pros and cons is important. Assuming something can result in bad consequences, so ensure you ask the question beforehand. Become informed
