4 awesome repairs with SMG
With there being more and more patients travelling to Turkey recently from various destinations around the globe it would be awesome if someone could offer some travel advice or tips regarding travelling to Turkey from different countries. I know Joe has kindly documented his journey to Turkey which was very useful, but has anyone else got anything helpful for potential prespective patients to add.

Here is my experience of travelling to Istanbul Turkey.
There are two airports in Istanbul, IST on the European side, this is the largest airport. You also have SAW airport on the Asian side.

When entering Turkey you need a visa, this can be purchased online or at the airport. I thinks its cheaper online. If you have not purchased a visa online you have to purchase it at the airport. You need to buy your visa before joining the passport control queue otherwise they will send you to visa window/office to purchase it and you have to join queue again.
It costs £20 or $30 and is basically a postage stamp that is stuck in your passport to allow you entry. No details are required at the airport but may be doing it online.

Passports, make sure your passport is valid for at least 150 days upon entry otherwise they won't let you in, this applies to some other countries also.

Travelling from the airport, you can take the bus, a cab or the clinic may arrange a driver to collect you. The traffic is very busy in Istanbul so extra time and planning need to be considered.

I found it easy getting from Ataturk airport to Taksim by bus from the front of the airport. Havas bus goes there every 15 minutes or half hour. I think it cost 11 lira which is under 3 pound.

Awesome info Bigmac, and Jessop. I wonder what the reasoning behind the 150 days on your passport is.

It's something to do with the visa as that allows you in for 90 days and they don't want you there if your passport expires.

What's the deal with travel insurance? Are there any issues when travelling for a HT?

I am planning on travelling to Turkey (from the UK) within the next month.

Any information would be much appreciated. :)

I have had a fair few visits to Turkish cities namely Istanbul, Izmir and Antlaya on previous work related matters. I would advise the following;-

1. Check reviews of your hotel online with Tripadvisor. Some hotels air conditioning within your room can be pretty lousy especially when its 100f plus outside.

2. Dont wear a backpack with shorts and t shirts. You will look like a tourist and attract a lot of unwanted attention from beggars. When you are sitting at a Restaurant you do not want them touching your newly implanted grafts. Wear a shirt with shorts(1/2 length trouser type).
I cant emphasise this enough if you dont dress as I have suggested you will get constant unwelcome attention.

3. Turkey is outside the EU. Remember to turn your mobile data off.

LSK,
Travel insurance varies depending on which airline is offering. You'll have to read the inclusions and exclusions carefully as they may not cover everything. You can get travel insurance deals from your bank and various other outlets online.

I like Coopman's advice! Ha ha. Possibly some may want the attention of being touched by strangers?? LOL.

Hello,

I have just made a HT with Dr Berker in Istanbul last May and am very satisfied with the results so far!
Travelling to Turkey made super easy with airport pick-up, clinic transportation and great staff. Not like MANY other organisations, Dr Berker is the doctor you will speak to and the one present through the intervention.
For any further details, photos etc. please feel free to contact on WhatsApp anytime +33 626 13 2571, alternatively [email protected].

After making so much investigations, am very happy to have found this doctor!

Any photos? How did you find the doctor? I must admit I have never heard of him.
