Does being on Finasteride make any difference to a transplant end result?

Been seeing a lot of people are using the tablet called Finasteride, how does it help with having a transplant.

It only helps to hold onto your native hair , slows down the loss and thickens the shafts.
Medication does nothing for newly transplanted grafts as they are DHT resistant. That hair will grow anyway with or without medication.

It's important to try to stabilise your hair loss before a transplant, and this is what finasteride will hopefully do. If you can halt your loss or at least significantly slow it, it puts you in a much better position when planning your procedure.

Stabalising your hair loss is important, if you don't, you run the risk of losing more native hair resulting in your transplanted hair not giving the desired effect.

Finasteride in general helps prevent further loss and helps you recover hair you may have lost within a certain amount of time. Once those grafts die and go beyond many years of loss, you can’t get hairs back even with finasteride.

another thing to keep in mind— if you have body hairs transplanted, from chest, beard, leg, armpit, pubic, etc, you can’t use finasteride as it can shed those hairs. The reaction of finasteride is negative to body hairs versus scalp hair. Keep that in mind. Esp for those folks that are getting combo transplants, you may not be able to use finasteride again.

@SeanFUE Where can I find the articles that say only scalp hair responds to Finasteride? Loads of people seem to get beard hair transplanted to their heads.

I am 40 now and started to loose my hair at the front at about 28. I did have a transplant in 2011 when i was 31 and it was is my opinion not created the desired look. I'm not on any medication since the peocedure! I am aware that i do need more than one peocedure to get the hair line to how i want it to look. I'm wondering is it to late for me to take finasteride to see if it regrows any of existing hair shafts! Is just over 10 years to late for it to have little to no effect on possible regrowth?

Look forward to the replys.

Thanks

You will never know unless you try it. You could still be losing hair now, Finasteride could help maintain these and there is the possibility to grow dormant follicles.
Where did you have your hair transplant?

Okay thanks. I had it done at a company called Ziering in the Midlands UK. I did no research back then and just chose them based on cost. If i knew what i do now back then i would have held off and done proper research. How do i get finasteride? Thanks

The shop will take you to the Lifestyle pharmacy.
It is up to you what you order, personal preference. 5mg you will cut into quarters or fifths. 1mg requires no cutting. Compare the prices of both, check out other online pharmacies such as Dr Fox or Uk pharmacy. Lots of people speak to their GP before deciding, there is the possibility you may suffer from side effects. Know all the facts before deciding.

Still fairly new and mostly unknown to the larger public: Topical Finasteride.
You apply this finasteride in a liquid for on the scalp. Since there is little to no systemic absorption it seems to the better choice for those who are afraid of the sides that are linked with oral finasteride.
The effects on the hair using the topical solution seems to be even better using topical finasteride since some dr add some other ingredients that also help fighting hair loss.

Thanks for sharing this information. I did not know there was a solution. Do you know if the solution has any side effects?

So far, we have not seen any side effects that are related to the usage of Finasteride. Since the lotion we use is only applied once a day the side effects of minoxidil usage have only been reported twice (dry skin).
From our observations from the last +- 10 months we would say that side effects are possible, but they are going to be extremely rare compared to oral usage of finasteride or minoxidil twice a day.
