2700 FUE grafts with Dr Arshad- The Hair Dr 25/01/2021

Hi All,

Thanks in a lot to this site and the threads posted in it I decided to get my hair transplant done with Dr Arshad.

I’m 27 now and I noticed I was first slowly receding at about the age of about 19/20, but until recently I’ve always been able to hide it but with lockdown it seemed the perfect opportunity to get it done.

I had my video consultation with Sommiya and the whole talk felt natural and that she wasn’t trying to push me into anything, just to give me information about what they could offer.
I arrived at the clinic at 7.45 and was met by Adam who chatted with me and put me at ease straight away. Dr Hamza then took me through to meet Dr Arshad and they both then discussed what I wanted and how it could be achieved. Initially I was advised for 2000 grafts but Dr Arshad said the results would be better with an extra 500 and because of how dense my donor area is it wouldn’t be a problem if another transplant was needed in the future.
Dr Hamza then extracted the grafts after the anaesthetic was injected which is the most painful part of the day. He ended up with an extra 200, so finished on 2700. This part of the day was done pretty quickly and we were finished at about 11 so Dr Arshad then cut in the channels and was finished before dinner at about 1.30.
After dinner the technicians started inserting the grafts under the supervision of both Doctors who came in regularly to check on how things were going. This part lasted until about 6.30 and is pretty painless but boring.
Before leaving Dr Arshad and Dr Hamza took pictures of the transplant and had a chat with me about what to expect and how it should look in the future.
My graft count was:
Refined multiples 426
Refined singles 62
Ones 101
Doubles 1978
Triples 139
I am now 3 weeks post transplant and appear to have healed quite well, I have also been given 1mg of finasteride to take once daily. Attached are photos from before and post transplant aswell as weeks 1,2 and 3 progress.

Welcome to the forum AFA7.

It`s good to hear everything went well with your procedure. That number of grafts should produce a nice result for you.
Your healing looks right on track, with no more scabs and some shedding.
Hopefully, the finasteride will work well for you and prevent future loss.
Thanks for sharing your story, I’ll look forward to following your journey.
All the best.
Bm.

Reached the 5 week mark today, a lot of shedding in the past 2 weeks as expected, can still see a few hairs that are left to shed but hopefully pretty much done.

Everything looks to be healing well at 5 weeks. Only a hint of redness I can see in your pictures.
How`s the donor area looking?

The Donor area healed quite well, I’m still getting the odd spot on either side of my head though hence the redness. Also had an aching sensation between weeks 2-4 in the donor area but it has since subsided. My hair in the photos pre HT is about another 3/4 weeks growth shorter than it is now but it doesn’t look too much different than it would have pre HT at this length.

Hello @AFA7 I've been battering my head whether to get the procedure done and the main thing holding my back at this point in time is how the donor area looks. Really appreciate the photos! How would your hair appear before and after HT both long and short?

I'm concerned my 2,000 grafts quoted will leave me moth eaten as I prefer to keep my hair relatively short at back and sides...

All the best with your journey!
Thanks,

Hi mate

I’ll attach a couple of photos of what it looks like now at 8 weeks which I’ve taken in the harshest possible lighting and one pre hair transplant just after being cut although it’s not the greatest quality so it might be hard to compare, the photo taken pre HT in the post above is probably the longest I’ve had it so I don’t think I’ll be able to show you how it would that long as I don’t plan on growing it that much again unless we hit another lockdown. I usually have a low fade so the higher part of the side of my head probably still isn’t the length it is on the haircut photo.
Prior to the HT Dr Arshad said my donor area was quite thick so I shouldn’t see much difference and Dr Hamza who did the extraction said it should look fine with a grade 2 shave on the back and sides but I imagine it will depend on how each individuals donor is looking.
From the result photos and videos I’ve seen from the Hair Dr I’ve been impressed with how untouched the donor areas have looked post HT but I’ll be happy to keep you updated with how mine is looking.
Once the barbers are reopened I’ll post an update with what it looks like after a haircut.

Brilliant thanks that's so appreciated. Yeah you're right it looks great from back and sides even in that harsh light. You must be delighted and quite excited for what's to come.

How are the scars?
And that you with a grade 2? (I don't think it is)

Cheers!

Yeah I’m counting down the weeks, even with how bad it looks on top at the moment it’s still feels like a weight has been lifted and I’m obsessing less from taking the plunge and getting it done.
To be honest I can’t notice the scars at all in the donor area, it might be different once I’ve had a cut but the only marking at the moment is the redness in the recipient area which is still lingering a bit.
It was the first haircut during lockdown one so It might have been something more like a 3/4, I wasn’t too entrusting of the person who did it . I’ve found another photo which is just after getting a 1 1/2 on the sides and back but again it’s low quality but I’ll attach it anyway. Was it with the Hair Dr you had you’re quotation?

I can imagine. Its going through my head now too, should I, shouldn't I, is it wrong to do it, how will I cope without being able to cover it up etc. Its very daunting. Yeah thanks for that photo too. I guess I do go as short as that sometimes so need to weigh that up now.

I actually got quotes from Hair Dr, Private Clinic, fue clinics and Vinci. I can't seem to find much reviews on any apart from on this forum. All said I needed similar treatment so that was more assuring but not sure just how it'll turn out and that's the scariest part for me.

Cheers

Everyone I’ve spoke to about it has said the first 3/4 months are the hardest but they’re worth it for the result after. I’m hoping it won’t look too much different in the donor when I next get it cut but I’ll find out in a month or so and post the results.
I think it all boils down to personal happiness, if you’re content with the way you’re hair looks at the minute then maybe hold off, I knew I wanted it done for a while but it came to a point where I found myself focussing on it a lot and I knew it was time to get it sorted.
I think that’s a big worry for everyone but it was the main reason I chose to get it done in the UK even though it was a lot more costly, aswell you see how interactive the clinics are over here with their aftercare.

Totally agree if I go ahead it will absolutely be here. I've similarly been thinking about it a lot the past few years and never been very happy. Luckily I am able to mask it, which unfortunately means the first 4 months will be hard since I won't be able to do whag I usually can. I think I've come to terms with that now so it really is the back and sides which concerns me. Very reassuring to know how yours has gone and looks now... So honestly thanks for your time into All of this and for your response!

Will definitely let you know if I go ahead. I feel pressured by the lockdown which doesn't help.

Cheers

No problem at all mate, don’t feel too pressured, it’s not ideal but you can always wear a cap for the first three months if you’re not comfortable with how it looks post op. I’ll keep the post updated and best of luck with whatever you choose

12 weeks post HT.

Photos are from before and after my first hair cut post hair transplant, the clinic advised to get no shorter than a number 4 grade for now.
I’ve noticed some small growth mainly in the temple and hairline areas with a small number of grafts being retained and continuing to grow but unoticeable unless I look really close. Fairly pleased with how it’s all looking up to this point and fingers crossed to see some more growth in the next couple of months.

Interesting they’ve told you to get it cut with a 4 at the lowest. I was told 3... hmmmm...

Looks good though, thanks for the update!
