Hi

I did my hair transplant exactly 2 months before frim Bangalore India. I had discussion with the surgeon and on consultation he suggested 3000 grafts(5-6 level of baldness). He said i have to choose between density of half head or coverage. So we decided to put the grafts all over the head.

Attaching some photos plz check.

I had few questions.
1.But now i am thinking that 3k were very less grafts. Will this provide enough density?
2. Could we have done more than 3k looking at the donor area ?
3. Also my scalp is numb after 2 months. Is this Ok?
4) will this give good results?

PS: images are not getting uploaded. File size too large. How to do it?

Hello @Sumedh, do you have a picture of the back of your head before your hair transplant. Your 2mont.jpeg your hair density appears thin in areas. While this can be natural, maybe they over harvested the area, if so that hair is now gone. Or could simply be how your hair is styled/combed.

You wrote - "He said i have to choose between density of half head or coverage. So we decided to put the grafts all over the head."

In fairness to your doctor, they are correct, there is a trade off. In general, the goal is to cover the scalp and block the reflection of light from penetrating to the scalp, if this is achieved, the hair transplant result looks full. When the hair is spread, the scalp becomes more visible and any look of hair density is lost. Your contrast between hair colour and skin complexion is low, which is good, but there are limits to how far you can spread the hair.

As a rough guide, 3000 grafts will commonly cover from the hairline to the front of the mid-scalp region, full hair coverage can vary, so can be anything from around 6000 to 8000 grafts. The variant can be due to the quality of hair characteristics, and surface area needing to cover, as well as the quality of the surgeon in being able to place the hair while maximising the coverage and still maintaining the look of fullness.

I dont have a picture as such but thats OK. I am not concerned about donor area. I guess it will look ok if i keep decent length at back.
I am more concerned about the top density. How it will look with full growth. Currently the shedding is almost done, i guess. I see only few hairs while washing. Also, some existing hair also falls out. Is this expected?
I am currently applying topical minoxidil and taking some supplements.

Your scalp looks clean and healed well. The transplant shedding normally starts after a couple of weeks and continues till just after a month post op, some people keep much of the transplanted hair while others lose it all. Either way it´s not a reflection on the final result. Your existing hair shedding, unless it is a great deal, it´s maybe nothing to be concerned about

They placed a higher hair density from the immediate hairline back a cm or so, then the placed density drops significantly through the frontal, mid-scalp and crown. The hairline may look ok when grown out as your hair to skin contrast is low, this will also help going back when the density is lower, but you will not be able to hide the fact the density will be sparse, similar to a diffuse thinning pattern.

You will only be able to judge properly when fully grown out, and you could potentially have another procedure to improve the density. However, if you do, it´s best not to spread the hair again, as the impact would be minimal, rather focus on a smaller area, say the frontal, with a higher placed density, that way it will create a uniform look of fullness, albeit not everywhere.

Keep the forum updated over the months as your hair matures, I hope it works out.

Thanks. Sure I will keep posting the progress.
Looking at the donor area is it possible to have another HT. How many more grafts can be taken? I also have a great beard so that is also an option.

Assuming the hair density is not too low, you should be able to have another session, it will not be anything like 3000 grafts though, maybe half that, but best to wait and have your donor measured again. Body, beard hair yes could be a good option, BH is best used as a filler, so would suit being placed between the transplanted hairs. Good growth and look forward to the updates.

Hi. I am facing a lot of hairfall in last few weeks while applying minoxidi. I am at almost 3 months from HT. Is this normal? These looks like existing hairs not the transplanted one.

If you have started minoxidil relatively recently, month or so, an increase in hair shedding is a known side effect. It does reduce overtime and the hair cycle balance once again.
