7pc versus 12.5pc minoxidil

Hi

I've used the Belgravia centre minoxidil for six years now - 5% 'liquid' droplets in the morning and 12.5% paste in the evening.

I met Dr Reddy who advised that I move onto his combination therapy of topical finasteride and minoxidil, which is 7% minoxidil. Since this is lower strength than the 12.5% Belgravia paste, might I find that I go backwards because it's lower strength? Dr Reddy said no more than 7% is needed. Is this right?

As a layperson it's tempting to think higher strength equals better results.

Incidentally, Dr Reddy's advice was to take finasteride orally every other day alongside the topical finasteride and minoxidil combination.

Thanks for your opinions.

Hi, I started this journey 17 years ago and with Belgravia.
Firstly they are very expensive and you can get cheaper online if you search-in my day not so available hence Belgravia.
I found the paste impractical and manage with the liquid-its a bit oily but can style your hair straight away

Have you seen results? I used 15% previously and personally I think I did not have the enzymes on my scalp to utilise it, switched to oral mioxidil and I have the most regrowth I have even seen, proof to me that topical was not effective for me, no matter how strong.

Hi,
That's great news. You find the regime that works best for you and you have finisteride and minoxidil.
I started on 12.5% minoxidil and 1mg Dutasteride for 2 years and it got me back a third of my hair- though not at the temples and I was practically bald at 45years old.
Perhaps if i kept it going another year may have got more but it seemed to have run its course and due to cost I then dropped to 5% minoxidil and fin 1mg and retained what I regrowed
I had a picture before I started 17 years ago and my work colleagues were shocked not knowing I was almost bald compared to now!
Anyway again late at the age of 62 I for the last 2 months going full out to see if I can get more back after hearing about oral minoxidil. 2.5mg plus I use 5% topical minoxidil plus fin 1mg. 6months supply of fin and oral minoxidil cost me £200 from Sons, and 6 bottles of topical minoxidil 5% £32 from OnBuy.
Now I have also added a laser helmet Thermadome to my regime as it claims regrowth but unlike most laser helmets they don't use cheap diodes from China but make them themselves at optimum wave length targeting stem cells- also laser better than LED.
It is used by many on this forum.
Will have to see if it works, will no doubt take time again but if I get more back or even thicken up what I got that's good enough for me
