Hello,

I am just turning 41 and my hair is receding at the temples.

Sadly i was born with quite a severe widows peak which gives me a naturally high hairline and although it hasnt receded that much it makes a big difference now.

MY hair started to recede quite a bit about 3 years ago when i had a bad accident and nearly died and had physical and mental health problems along with losing my job and home, stress etc. Happy to say im over the worst of all that but my hair hasnt grown back which is what i was hoping might happen with the stress gone.

Family hair background - dad is 75 and has a full, thick head of hair but my mom has the widows peak so i guess my hair is from her side of the family who i dont really know so cant say.

I've attached some pics. 2 from today facing the front and 1 from the side from earlier this year, in the side on photo ive had a shaved number 2 on the sides a week earlier.

I dont have any bald patches on the crown etc, the hair i do have grows to a decent thickness and length but like i say the temples moving back. In the pics ive drawn some red lines to show where my original hairline would be.

I'm torn between having a HT and having to take meds for the rest of my life or shaving my head and having the corners SMP'd in!! I did shave my head as a child ad i hated it although 25 years later it may suit me more i guess.

Any ideas/suggestions people? Money for the HT isnt an issue im worried about getting side effects though from the meds after. I did one of those rough estimates using squares and to restore my hairline id need 1000-ish grafts.

Another idea i had was to redesign my hairline and have say double the grafts and bring hairline forward and even it out removing widows peak? Can this be done?

Thanks!

It`s good to hear you have overcome the traumatic time you went through. Stress can certainly cause your hair to fall out. It usually grows back but it seems for whatever reason yours has not.
There are many who have hair transplants without using any meds. Your hair loss seems pretty stable and your family history would indicate you have a good chance of retaining it.
It is a bit hard to judge your hairline from this distance but I can see the widow's peak effect. I think you`re in the right ballpark saying 1000 grafts to fill in the temples. This could possibly even out the hairline as well without the need for any lowering. If you have a consult in person you can have the doctor check your hair for signs of miniaturisation and to advise on how many grafts you actually need.
I would not do SMP.

Bigmac thanks for the reply!

I thought if you had a HT then you MUST use meds?
I won't take meds because i've heard of the sides, particularly the ED, not going away for a long time even after stopping taking meds. I didnt take anti-depressents etc when i was mentally screwed for this reason also. JUst got myself through it.

Ok so if i dont have to use meds then i would definitely prefer a HT. It'sa annoying really because my hairlines moved back less than 1cm at its worst point but because my hairline is so far back naturally it's really made me obvious to me. If i was bron with a straight-ish hairline like most ppl i wouldnt be here asking but what can i do hah!

So i need to see an expert. Is there a specific forum i should ask for recommendations for? I am based in the UK but the general vibe i get is the UK is overpriced and i should go to Europe, i've been given these names on multiple occaisions Bisanga, Erdogan and Ferundi.

Anyone can recommend clinics. You could have one member who likes 20 clinics so they recommend them all. It is best to look at clinic results, look at patient posted results and decide for yourself. Take your time researching, have a few consults with clinics you like.
Every country has clinics that will vary in price. Some offers will seem too good to be true and others you may think are overpriced. Some countries have a lower cost of living etc, therefore, they are usually cheaper when it comes to hair restoration costs.
Check out the names you`ve been given. If you like what you see, consult with them.

Look through the patient section on here. There are many documented journeys. Most with meds but quite a few who aren't.
During a consult, the doctor should advise you on the possibility of future loss. This way you know the potential risks.

Cool. Remember, no need to rush. Ask the patients some questions. Get their feedback.
