Am I a Hair Transplant candidate?

Hi everyone.
Recently joined after browsing for several months, still unsure if I'm suitable to have a hair transplant which is why I'm here to ask the veterans and clinics. I began to lose my hair in my mid 20's, a slow gradual process that began with my hair line disappearing and the recession creeping backwards towards my crown to leave my hair a Norwood 4 1/2. It's been this way for the last two years which makes me think I'll stay at this Norwood level. I'm not using any medications either, Proscar gave me dizzy spells - Rogaine gave me headaches.

My hair is a little on the thin side in the tradionally donor zone, not see through, just not as thick as it use to be. Comparing myself to results I've viewed I would probably need somewhere in the region of 4000 to provide a low density full coverage of the area. This would exhaust most of my available donor in one go therefor I run the risk of my lateral humps or crown dropping further down leaving me with an unnatural look.

I know it's a risk having a hair transplant which is why I'd like the advice from the members, especially ones in a similar situation to myself who've undergone a procedure that turned out successful.

Hi Matty, welcome to the forum. As you have pointed out there are risks involved if you opt fit a HT as you could very well keep progressing with your hair loss. What I would do is send some pictures off to a few clinics you like and see what they say, if possible try to have an in house consultation to have your hair/available donor checked for miniturization and then go from there.Every patient is different, someone who appears to have the same hair characteristics as you can have a different result.Ask some questions on patient posted results on here to get their feedback. Hi Matty. As Bigmac says, it's certainly worth you emailing pics to a few clinics and ideally getting a face to face consultation. You say you're not keen on taking meds, and that combined with perhaps less than ideal donor supply and the possibility of further loss could make for a challenging case. You seem to be realistic about your situation though and are doing your research thoroughly. All the best with it.

Thanks for posting your story and I hope you will find a solution and some answers to your questions , it would be good if you could post some pictures it gives the members a better Idea of were your at you dont need to show your face , how old are you now if you dont mind me asking whats the history in your family with hair loss , when i was researching I checked my Fathers and Grandfathers pictures respective to their age and mine and it looked very much like I was similar in respects to hair loss , do your research friend dont get disheartened

Thanks Dazzster. I'm 36 (just) my father had a good head of hair with slight thinning on his crown, never seen a picture of any grandfathers. I'll see about blanking my face to enable my privacy and will post.

It is quite true that with younger patients, there is a high likelihood that hair will continue to shed. Therefore, it is important for doctors to carefully plan out the course of the procedure. An important consideration would be the amount of donor hair that could be used if additional surgeries (for repair) are needed
