Does everyone who has a hair transplant need to use concealer or is there surgeons out there that are good enough you wouldnt need it, just read a rooney post where somebody mentions that some clinics hide the fact youll need concealer here what i just read,

That spike of 5 times the amount of men signing up for a procedure after seeing Rooney €™s result. How many knew exactly what they were looking at? How many knew what concealer was and did anyone care to tell them meaning the clinic? This is how many in the HT industry operate hiding information that would rather not have you know. If he was just a forum patient he would have just disappeared, claimed not to have time to post the result just too busy or if pressed maybe he would have posted blurry photos and not have much to say.....poof gone. Rooney €™s situation is different as he seems to be in the spotlight so eventually the truth will surface and people will want to know what happened.

Hopefully those that jumped in after seeing Rooney €™s result came out okay but for those that didn €™t that is how it works. What I still don €™t understand is how a clinic that does business this way thinks it €™s a good long term plan.

I e-mailed the clinic and asked if prospective patients were advised that Rooney was using concealer when they showcased his result during the consultation as I didn €™t see that mentioned in any of the press releases. I €™m hoping for a reply.

Welcome to the forum, i personally don't believe concealor is a must after a HT to create a good natural looking head of hair. It all depends however on a patients expectations and whether they are realitic or not before they have an op, and offcourse the ability of a good doctor to create an illusion of a good head of hair. If someone with huge loss is expecting to get a full dense head of hair then they are mistaken as the donor simply isnt there. Thats the beauty of internet forums because you can research and get a good perspective of what to actually expect and what's the norm.

Its something that is not often discussed. My personal opinion is that unless you go for a longish comb over style you will need a certain amount of concealer after a procedure. Unless you have a small area to cover with a ht.

From my point of view the whole point of having a HT was to GET OFF concealer. I would have not have had one to be tied in to using that crap for the rest of my life. So restricting.

A proper HT is all about non needing to use concealer going forward. I think probably the only exception to that should be a very high norwood case. Anything else is a failure in my eyes if they still need to use it.

I recently viewed a picture of Wayne Rooney after his 2 ht with his head shaved and it looks very good using what appears to be no concealer. Sometimes that shaved down look works very well with HT.

But regardless the marketing of his 1st HT appeared to be somewhat deceptive and personally I think it does the clinic more damage than good as it seems as though one is trying to fool others when you do not openly disclose it.

Maybe is was disclosed but I have no seen it.

My experience is this: prepare to look like shit afterwards. For a few months.

If you look great after a few weeks then you are one of the lucky ones.

I looked like shit, but then I had 4800 grafts in one session. I looked like shit for about 3 months.

Basically my transplanted area went red and stayed red. The hair was slow to grow.

I got a great result in the end (my thread is on this board) and I do not wear concealer, I don't need to. But you need to be strong and tough it out.

It is not called the ugly duckling stage for nothing.

That would be fine i wouldnt mind using it for the first few months just not the rest of my life, there would be nothin worse than everyone thinkin you have loads of hair an then one day you run out of the stuff then people would look at your stange thinkin im sure he had hair yesterday haha '''h;h;;h

I think its important not to over rely on concealer especially for that reason. I tend to use concealer if im going out or if im about town on a real sunny day. Hair can look a bit scalpy in strong sun because i usually keep it short on top probably about 20mm. I find concealer works better on miniturised hair as apposed to transplant hair (at short lengths anyway)

I agree, use as little as possible so you're not reliant on the stuff.

I too only use it now and again on special nights out etc and only around people i don't know or don't see often.....otherwise my friends and family would start asking questions and i too don't want to become dependant on the stuff either as i'm very happy with my hair now.

If you do get a HT (FUE) i highly recommend buzzing your hair down for the first few months while waiting for the growth to come in.

You take away the risk of concealer affecting growth . And you can wait until enough growth has come through and matured so it can grow out in an even fashion without thin spots etc.
