PATIENT'S DETAILS

60 years old, NW V, losing hair since the age of 25, with a hair loss history in his family (two brothers, NW VI).

Taking Minoxidil 5% for 10 years.

Medium hair.

Normal follicular units.

Normal % of hair in the telogen phase.

RECOMMENDED TREATMENT

This 60-year-old gentleman presented an advanced level of baldness, categorizable as V in the Norwood scale.
Given the extended hair loss he suffered, I proposed him a plan consisting of two separate sessions.

The first one, consisting of approximately 3000-3500 grafts, with the aim of restoring his hairline, frontal and low mid scalp areas - following a conservative approach.

The second session, around 2000-2500 grafts, in order to restore the upper mid-scalp and vertex.

The patient underwent both procedures via FUT technique (January '15 and January '16), for a total of 5896 grafts.

The post-operative pictures presented below show his final results (1 year and 2 years after the second procedure).
Please note that the 2 years post-op images were sent in by the patient himself.

4 awesome repairs with SMG
That's superb, very natural and age appropriate too. The donor scar looks good as well in the picture before op 2.
Out of interest with him being a Norwood V does he have much donor left in the bank...I'm guessing he could probably have an FUE procedure later down the line if he required?

Thanks for sharing....awesome as always

Thanks for your appreciation bullitnut.

Yes, his donor area still can provide more grafts for a potential third procedure, both via FUT or FUE technique, or via a combo FUT and FUE if he wants to maximise his donor resources.

However the patient appears satisfied with his current results, therefore it's not sure he will have recourse to a third procedure.

In case he will, we will not hesitate to share his progress with you.

Hello SADbutTRUE,

Thank you kindly for your comments and my apologies for the late reply.

In this specific case we didn't use the ATP spray post-op but a spray containing a saline solution. Nevertheless, the ATP is a very good solution as well to hydrate and keep the grafts clean during the very first post-operative phase.

Regards,
