Finasteride - just started taking it

Hi everyone,

I just started taking finasteride for the past week. My dermatologist put me on 3 day a week regimen with 1mg due to my concerns of side effects. I have read a lot about all the negative side effects so that didn’t help. So I already had my anxiety going whenI took medicine, expecting the worse. My doctor also suggested I take Nutrafol as well.

I have been on it for a week now ( 3 dowsed). It was fine first few days. No sexual issues. I was worried so I kept masturbating every night to see everything was ok lol. The fears were there. Anyways, I am not really active sexual guy. I thought earlier my ejaculation volume decreased after 2 doses but I think it had to do with me masturbating more consistently. So last night I put on porn to jerk off, got hard, was masturbating with a sex toy. It felt different. Anyways I stopped to go to bathroom and then came back to jerk off and my hard on went away. It was odd, I tired getting hard again and it could not happen. weirdest feeling ever. I usually get hard easily if I didn’t cum and i wanted to finish the job. Nothing was happening even with porn on. So I gave up, and an hour later while I was distracted I got hard on again and was able to finish the job and cum. Cum volume was normal. This little episode threw me off. I hear it works, finasteride, but now I am concerned about quick effects. I don’t know if I should continue at least for a month and see if things improve or just give up now since I am seeing some effects. It’s all so confusing and a lot. I just want to fix my hairloss issue but it’s really complicate. The one thing that is suppose to help now has a downside.

I also have a prp scheduled in a month and wondering if I should just go that route. I am going the medical route now and not doing a transplant as I originally wanted.

Not sure, but topical Finasteride is now known by most in the hair transplantation industry.

We have switched to almost all topical finasteride, except for those who prefer pills (and yes, there are people that prefer the pill version since it is easier)

Thank you for reply. Maybe I should try topical.

Did you make contact with any hair transplant doctors when you were looking in the New York area? They will have a lot of experience and advice regarding Finasteride and other non surgical options.
PRP could work for you. Taking Finasteride at the same time though is going to make it difficult to say which one is working or if both are having a positive effect.
Anxiety about sides could be causing you issues.
Best ask whoever prescribed the finasteride or a doctor.

Hi! So an update

I got into topical finasteride. Side effects went away.
‘I’m taking Minoxidil as well and hair vitamins.

it’s crazy but I have had regrow of dormant hairs. It’s getting fuller and gone back to my old original hair almost so far. I have responded well to the medication. It was really bad before. I have also done PRP and there is more growth. It was going well so far before PRP as well. I am not even thinking about hair transplant now. Mine dermatologist has been very pleased with results. I am surprised the medicines I was resisting could have this impact. I am excited for this journey I begun with the medicines first before jumping to a hair transplant.
