Five months and no new hair Dr Turan - FUE Capilar

Hi, five months since my transplant in Turkey in July and not one single new hair, I've retained the hair that didn't shed but no new growth whatsoever.

I've read that Joe Tillman says not to expect one single hair to grow between 3 and 5 months, so as I'm past 5 months I'm asking now if it's normal to have nothing at this stage?

I've been told by a "Facebook expert" that it's because I didn't use Minoxidil but from what I understood it isn't conditional for new growth although it was recommended by my doctor it was my choice not to use it.

I check every day as I can't avoid the mirror in the bathroom and there's not even a sign of any new hairs coming through.

Just looking for a glimmer of hope as it's disheartening not seeing any results after this length of time.

Do you have any before and after photos??

I don’t believe that new hairs only grow after 5 months? I had my HT 5 months ago and I’ve seen plenty on new hairs growing, but everyone reacts differently to a HT

Growth may happen anytime from a few weeks after surgery to 6-7 months post op. The average used to be roughly 3-6 months but recently the timeframes seem to be 2-5 months for a lot of patients.
Everyone is different in growth rates. If you don`t expect one single hair to grow between 3 and 5 months, you won`t be worried if they don`t. You`re most likely a slow grower.
Minoxidil is not a requirement after surgery. It may or may not speed up growth. To say you did not get growth because you never used Minoxidil is "incorrect advice".
Anyhow, 5 months is still early. You will have to be patient and see what happens in the coming months. This is hard when you‘re comparing yourself with others who have had growth before you, try not to be anxious and do try to stay positive.
Do you have some pictures you can share with us?
What is your doctor advising?

It's Dr Turan at fuecapilar and he's says nothing to be concerned about.
To be fair I'd expect him and any doctor to say the same at this stage.
1st photo is 5 months ago and 2nd photo is recent.

I would give it another month and contact the clinic if the situation hasn't improved at six months. My friend had a HT with Dr Turan at Fuecapilar around five months ago and his growth is looking very good. This Dr seems to be highly regarded on a well known hair loss facebook group and has quite a long waiting list. I know Dr Turan specialises in DHI. Did you have any bumps to the head or other trauma in days following surgery?

You are definitely getting growth now. I can see the hairline forming and the area behind has some. This could be the beginning of your decent growth spurts. Hang in there as it should happen.

That's not new growth, that is unshed hair as stated in opening post approx 2 inches long which has been there from the transplant.

What didn't shed formed the hairline, I've had no new growth, zero new hairs which the clinic also confirmed when I sent them updated photos.

it sounds confusing but;
The hairs that shed have not regrown
The hairs that did not shed, have continued to grow.

I get it now. There are some accounts of grafts continuing to grow.
Any chance you could post your immediate post op pictures and the ones you sent to the clinic?

Does it look like I have enough density?
I'll add some other photos from my phone.

4 awesome repairs with SMG
Personally I would have expected to see some growth at least at 5 months dude....but I suppose you could be a very slow grower (it does happen) I'd give it another month or so too tbh and then if you dont see anything I would be inclined to think negatively about whether it will improve bud

It looks as though they have placed at a higher density in the frontal half but it is hard to actually see the grafts clearly.
You could ask the clinic what density they placed at.

It does look a good density but coming up to 6 months this is what I see, it's very gappy with 2mm to 3mm gaps throughout the hairline and midscalp.
The crown has been filling in nicely just no new growtth from shed hair elsewhere.
6 months seems a long time for shed hair to regrow especially as the crown has started.

It can be frustrating waiting and at 6 months most people will have had a lot more growth but there are those that do take longer. If all is well with your transplanted grafts it seems you fall into the percentage of late bloomers.

Have you a picture showing the rest of your head?

Taken yesterday, frustrating is an understatement when you see people after 3-4 months with thick full head of hair.
This is unshed hair approx 3 inches long.

The growth is definitely there whether it be from unshed grafts and possibly new growth that you may not have noticed. your 3750 grafts have been spread over a large area which will decrease density.
Over the years I've seen a large number of patients who are worried around the 6 month mark and they have gone on to be a late bloomer with a lot more growth in the following months.
These patients who have exceptional early growth are the lucky ones.

Thanks, I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't grow, the unshed hair continues to grow, the crown which is usually the last to come through, has come through.
I just didn't think the telogen phase lasted for more than 4 months which is why I was concerned t the 5 month mark and now coming upto 6 months as can't see any new hairs coming through.

This link explains about growth, how most patients experience the majority of growth between month 5 and 12.

This link had some discussion on slow growers also.

I've probably left it a bit late to start Minoxidil, in hindsight I would have taken it and then I'd have covered myself as a lot of people say it's a necessity to see fast growth.

I'd be concerend I'd lose my unshed hair if I started it now, I made a decision not to take it as have seen plenty of results from others who have not used it and although a recommendation it's not a requirement to grow the implanted hair.

If it's going to grow, it's oing to grow regardless of Min.

The said 40 grafts per cm2

Yes, its tensed situation but i think you have not to compare your hair growth with other. When anyone got HT service first thing, never take stress, and take medicines timely, healthy diet, exercise, good sleep etc. also effect hair growth.
