I agree with the natural look. If it isn't possible to have full coverage which I don't think it is, I want my hair to look normal, natural.

I believe it was a failure because I had 2,500 grafts put solely into the crown. As you can see in the pictures, that is where my hair is at it's worst. I think it has been assumed that I had the transplant towards the front/on my hairline but it wasn't.

Yes most probably assumed the hair was placed into the hairline as most reputable clinics are not going to place those kinds of numbers into the balding crown of someone who is 25 years old as it is equivalent to painting oneself into a corner.

Then good news is that you probably still have adequate donor to address the frontal area while leaving the crown bald.

One of the main reasons a patient opts for FUE is so that they can wear a shaved head if they so choose in the future or simply that they don't like the idea of a linear scar in the back of their head. Except in your case you already have a strip scar.
You have a pretty aggressive hair loss pattern so hopefully the meds will help you slow down the progress and possibly regain some lost hairs. Good luck in your research.

Dear rstill,

I would advise you FUE for natural look and a realistic approach from your doctor. Do start Propecia and Minoxidil to see how it goes.

Good luck.

Rstill has approached myself directly and said he was happy for me to comment on his case on here. I have advised him to re-start propecia as he has hairs that could be saved and possibly thickened around the rim of his crown and sides of scalp and of course the hair in the front. Without taking this it is clear that the crown will open up further.

He has options available and sounds like he is doing his research after suffering such a failure from his last surgery, like everyone else I assumed it was in the front. We hope to meet next month for a in person consult to assess laxity and the previous scar and to talk about expectations. As Janna said you already have a scar so FUT would appear to be your best option providing you have adequate laxity.

As for toppik different clinics will have contrasting opinions on this but we state it can be used 7-10 days post op sparingly and washed out every night.

This is Shapiro Medical Group's advice on Toppiks or any other cover ups as well.

Thanks once again! Yes I am doing lots of research so hopefully this next one goes according to plan.

Sorry, one more question - due to work/family stuff only this coming September/next May is good for me to have a transplant, obviously only if I have sufficient donor area. Do you think I should book in for September with only 5 months of Propecia use or next May when I would have used it for a year and given me/the doctor a better understanding of my hair loss and way to proceed? I would like to go this September but I'd opt for next May if it was the sensible and correct decision

I would wait till May to give the Propecia a chance to work, make sure you take monthly pictures to compare, as for concealer, I used Nanogen ten days post op with no problems, I just made sure I washed it out every night to keep my scalp clean.

Thanks for the advice. Unsurprisingly the doctors I have been consulting with each have their own ideas - some say yes take propecia for a year then look at having a transplant, others say there is no point waiting.

I've just ordered a year's supply on proscar so I'll be starting that on Monday

Hi

Welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing some of your history with your hair loss and experience you have had already having a HT , your story will help someone who is looking through the forums for sure , I think its all been said by the other members but the most important person on this forum is YOU and taking your time with the research has to be priority , I agree with the advice about trying the meds use the Combo Rogaine and Propecia your still young thier is no hurry , if you have side effects you can always stop I know the meds worked for me even though I had 2 HT , I wish you all the best and I certainly believe you can get a good result with the right Doctor doing the work.
Take care I care

Hello rstill,

We hope you find the correct Clinic to suit your goals.

There are a few aspects in your assessment that need to be addressed; the result you wish to be achieved, your donor hair density and your donor skin laxity, regardless of technique.

Obviously your hair loss has progressed so it is important to be able to give a result for you that gives a balanced coverage that looks natural and you feel happy with.

As the surface area of the recipient area increases so does the need for hair; so the result relies on what can be taken from the donor area without taking too much.

Thanks for the follow up.

I haven't had any side effects and actually my shedding seems to have decreased. Perhaps that's just me being more aware of it. I've now been on it for 6wks.

Hope to see Dr Bisanga next month for a consult. I have already exchanged numerous emails and sent many photos to Dr Konior and also plan to see David Anderson (H&W) again in August.
