Getting concerned about my hairline

Hi all.

I've been getting more concerned about my hair lately, I think it might be thinning in some areas of the hairline, I've also noticed some shorter hairs near the peak, but I don't know whether they're minaturising or breaking. I wanted to confirm here before I get on any medication, as I'm concerened about the side effects.

I've had a pretty high hairline for most of my life, as well as a widow's peak. My father had thick hair into his 40s, and even now he still has some, albeit thin, hair.

I can add more pictures if needed.

Thanks

As we age, from teens into the twenties our hair natural changes, due to hormonal changes. This can be in height, shape, texture or coarseness. This maturing of the hairline is perfectly normal and does not indicate the start of male pattern hair loss. That said, and especially if male pattern baldness is prevalent in your family the two can coincide.

Genetic hair loss can be inherited from either the paternal or maternal sides. It can skip generations and even go against the hair loss pattern norms in the family. If you are concerned, hair loss treatments work better when started in the early advent of hair loss and at a younger age. It´s important to use treatment as advised to get the most from them and appreciate they only work while used.

What sort of signs should I look for before starting medication? I don't want to risk getting my hair dependant on Minoxodil and the like if I don't need it.

Only really time and monitoring your hairline, for instance if a deeper temple recession begins to show. Maybe the shedding cycle changes, with an increase in hair loss, assuming health etc remains stable, can be a sign that you´re body is not growing back hair at the same rate it is shedding. If your hair is naturally strong, then meds are going to have little to no reaction, stopping meds with healthy hair not prone to genetic hair loss is not going to make them weaker. They do not have the active hair loss gene.

The two most used by men are a topical 5% minoxidil foam, used am/pm, and an oral 1mg finasteride tablet taken daily. They can be used independently or together, as they deal with hair loss in different ways. They need to be used correctly and for a good period of time, 6-12 months before considering lowering the dose. Treatment is designed to prevent not cure, so it´s not going to lower your hairline, but can stabilise the hair growth cycle to reduce or in many cases halt the thinning process. Do your research on these, one is over the counter and the other prescriptive.

Hi mate nothing 2 worry about at all
Just a maturer hairline as u aged
I wouldn't even bother with topical minoxidil, just pain in the arse to put on scalp,u will get fed up with it,stop using it and lose all what u gained
I think if u are really concerned about it go see Dr ball at maitland clinic he will check everything and put u on some kind a medication ie oral tablet if he feels u are suitable,
I personally think it looks fine and I just don't want u to go down that rabbit hole being obsect about it ie trying different hairloss products etc etc then going down the route of a hair transplant
Mate it looks fine most guys would kill for that hairline,

Do you have any photos from a few years ago to look at? That should tell you if it’s the same or not

If you are concerned about your hairline, you should consult a doctor to identify the cause and get treatment. Hair loss can be caused by a number of things, including stress, medication side effects, and underlying health conditions
