Hi there, just a question I’ve been wondering for a week or so now, I had hair transplant in November 2020, all great and that I’m happy with results got my second one to focus on crown area in October. I noticed after having a bath last week that there was a about 10/15 hairs in the bottom, does this mean the transplanted follicle is still there and will grow back Another hair ? Like everybody looses hair in the bath, this doesn’t mean it’s the start of this horrible hair loss cycle again does it? ☹️

We all lose a certain number of hairs per day. I wouldn’t be concerned about seeing 15 hairs in the bath. The follicle is still there.
Any chance you could document your HT journeys?

It's understandable to be concerned after seeing hair loss following a transplant. Here's what you can consider:
  • Shock Loss: It's common to experience the shedding of transplanted hair 1-2 weeks after surgery. This "shock loss" is temporary, and new hair growth starts within 3 months. Since your transplant was in October, this wouldn't be the cause.
  • Telogen Effluvium: This temporary hair loss can occur 2-3 months after a stressful event, including surgery [1]. It usually resolves on its own.
  • Normal Shedding: We lose some hair daily during showers. 10-15 hairs likely fall within normal shedding patterns, especially after a transplant when the hair follicles adjust.
Reassurance:
  • Follicle Health: Losing a few hairs doesn't necessarily mean the follicle is damaged. If the follicle is healthy, it should grow new hair.
  • Long-Term Growth: Hair transplant results take time. Full growth can take 8–12 months [1]. So, some initial shedding is expected.
Recommendations:
  • Monitor: Keep an eye on hair loss. If it seems excessive or continues for a long time, consult your hair transplant surgeon.
  • Surgeon's Guidance: They can best assess your situation and advise on the next steps. They likely provided post-operative instructions, which might address hair washing and shedding. Refer to them for specific advice.
