Hi Doug, can you please give some additional details about what happens at a consultation like this? For example what will Rob do to assess whether or not a prospective patient is suitable for a transplant?

Thanks

Hi Barrren,

Thank you for inquiring. An assessment touches on a few basic elements. Probably most important is the donor area. It is inspected to get a sense of its quality and quantity. The final hair loss pattern is also evaluated so a supply versus demand or potential demand equation can be determined. Another key element is to find out about the patient's expectations. Are they realistic? Can the expectations be delivered? Will he or she be happy with the end result? Questions about pre-op and post-op can also be discussed. As a former patient who had also traveled to Vancouver from the UK for his procedure, Rob can share his experience and give the patient an idea of what to expect from the initial consultation all the way up to 1-year post-op and beyond. The number of grafts that might be required and the estimated cost is also discussed. In the end, based on visual evaluation and questions to the patient, Rob will try and determine whether a procedure would result in a positive cosmetic impact and if is there enough donor hair to achieve this without putting the patient in a potentially unenviable position in the future.
