How do you cover your head right after surgery?

Hi.

I understand that to minimise the risk of damage to the newly transplanted grafts, one is advised not to wear a hat for at least ten days after surgery, which is fair enough. However, my worry is with the journey I have to make home from the clinic on the day of the procedure; for that at least, I would like to wear some sort of covering, ideally a baseball cap. Having never had a transplant before, I don't know if the clinic itself provides any sort of covering. Can anyone here enlighten me as to what the standard procedure is? What do you do immediately after surgery to hide your head?

I wore a loose fitting baseball cap for most of my surgeries. One time I wore a loose bandana but the cap I think is the best.
I know some people travel home with the surgical hat on if they’re being picked up by car.

That's good to know. Once I'm home, I don't mind foregoing headgear for a fortnight, but for the immediate journey after the procedure, I don't fancy being bare headed.

Yes, no need to be bare headed when traveling home. You just need to be careful putting on and taking off the cap if that’s what you choose to wear. It is basically sitting on top of your head. No tight fit.

You should also consider what you wear on the day. For example, wear comfortable clothes, including a shirt that buttons down the front. So as not to have to put on and take off over your head. So, no T-shirts. This applies for a few days at home while healing. Also, consider purchasing a travel pillow. It helps to keep your head in a more stable position. While sleeping for the first few nights. But always take the advice from the clinic and doctor.

You can wear a surgical cap, a loose baseball cap or a loose bandana. What you need to make sure is that they are clean and that they do not touch your recipient area. You would want to avoid any accidental scratch or tug and pull. The safest to use are surgical caps. You can use a new one each day and discard the old ones.

Wear a mesh baseball cap the one with holes in the back
It will feel weird wearing it as ur head will be numb
Just wear it loose no one will notice

It is advisable to wear some sort of button or zip up top on the day of surgery.
