How long do I need to be on Propecia before having a hair transplant?

Hey guys, what's the optimal time period one should be on Propecia before having a hair transplant? Would three months be long enough? I'm experiencing no side effects which is a good start, maybe I'll get some re growth further down the line. Having the last of my consults soon so I'm close to finalising my choice.

You should give it a year at least and not rush into anything, Propecia may end up working really well for you, I've seen examples of people planning an HT but giving Propecia a try first and then cancelling the HT because Propecia has had such a good effect!

Hi Sparky, I have been diagnosed with a diffuse thinning pattern. I don't think I could regrow enough hair in the quantity I desire to give the effect I want. I've researched for some time now, was going to go ahead with a hair transplant without the meds. after receiving advice from here and the clinics I decided to give Propecia a shot.

You won't know what you can regrow until you try, I have seen diffuse thinners respond really well to Propecia.

Sparky is right that 1 year will determine the best result that you are likely to see from Propecia and 6 months is the minimum time that you would notice improvements but the the ones that get regrowth are the lucky ones on the whole if you are stable on the medication then that should be the goal.

It is good that you have experienced no sides at this stage, sides usually happen early on so it looks like you have tolerated it well. How long you stay on the meds before a transplant depends on a number of factor including age and pattern of loss.
