How to Remove Staples

Hi,

Most patients go to a clinic (medical professional) to get their staples or sutures removed. However, there are instances when a friend or relative have to do the duty. Recently, I was instructing a patient on how to remove sutures and did not find one on youtube. I've put together this video on removing staples and will put one together for removing sutures soon. Feel free to ask any questions. It's easy to do if you know what you're doing. I recommend having steady hands and good lighting.

Nice video, those staples are easy to remove.

Janna, would you advise patients to make the area softer via a spray/shower prior to remove any crusting.

It's not necessary if the patient keeps the donor scar area clean by massaging the shampoo in small circular motion to keep it scab free each day prior to removing the staples. Some people are more sensitive than others, meaning they feel more pain during the removal. If you have low pain threshold, take a vicodin 30 min before or ibuprofen . It should take the edge off.
