My hairline and sides? Thinning? NW1 or NW2?

Hi all

I've uploaded some photos of my hairline, as in my previous thread I posted about losing around 50 hairs in the shower, which I think is normal, as explained by a kind member called Janna. However Janna also mentioned about having a good hairline so I thought I would post some pics.

Unfortunately I cannot PM Janna as my PM is disabled, but I would be grateful if Janna and other learned members could reply here.

______

Based on my hairline, do you think I'm balding? Am I a NW1 or NW2?

Also, if you can see the area of my sideburns and temple, why do they seem thinner?

I have some photos from around 3 years ago which show the same amount of thinness, but is this a sign that I am balding?

BTW I'm a 22 year old male.

(If the photos aren't labelled with a year, they were taken today)

Many thanks.

Hi Aza,

In my opinion, you don't look like you're experiencing much hair loss, if at all. It's not to say you're not experiencing it, it just doesn't look like it from the pics you posted. I really couldn't see any difference from 2013 to today's pics so that in itself is a good sign. At least if you are thinning, it's very, very gradual and not an aggressive hair loss. I would advise to hold tight and try not to worry about losing hair as stress itself can cause hair loss. I would not classify you as a NWI or a NWII at this point. Perhaps we'll speak in 10 years IF you have reached a NWI or NWII by then. ;) Best of luck!

Hi Janna,

Firstly, thank you very much for replying! I really appreciate it!

I just wanted to add some photos from the top of my head to see if that is ok too? I've added 2 pages worth of photos (sorry I went into camera overload!).

When my hair is wet (as seen in the last 11 pictures in the below Photo Link 2, which are on page 2), it looks really thin, and also when it is slightly greasy (as shown in these 3 pictures - one, two, three), it looks thin there too.

I have taken these photos under a bathroom light and with flash enabled both in a dark room and a well lit room with 3 spotlights.

What do you think?

Thanks again and sorry for the photo overload!
Aza.

Hi Aza,
It's still hard to judge if you are suffering from hair loss or if it's lighting and angles that look like you have some thinning. The best thing to do is perhaps go and get few consultations to see what your hair looks like in person. Where are you located I'd advise you to go to reputable hair restoration physicians to be evaluated.

Thanks Janna. I'm based in London. Can you recommend any physicians in London?

Hi Aza.
Your hair looks ok to me. Hair always looks thinner when pulled back and will also look thinner under bright lighting as in the first row of pictures in your second picture link.
If you really think it is thinning, then have a few consults to check for miniturization and if this is the scenario, you can ask about preventative measures such as meds.

Thanks Bigmac.
As you're also in the UK, do you know of any doctors that offer miniturization analysis, so I can get this test done?
Thanks

Good advice. Your hair looks ok to me too, Check out some of the clinics on here there are some UK ones. Fortunately the clinics on here are ethical and will give you an honest consult....but please be aware not all are so make sure you do some research or you could end up being talked into something that's totally not needed.

Thanks Bullitnut. I will have a look at the clinics on here and contact them.
I've been reading about miniturization. I understand the doctor puts a microscope on your scalp and looks for thinning hair. Is this correct?
And do you know roughly how much a miniturization test costs at the clinic?

There does not appear to be any change in your hair characteristics from 2013 to your present pictures.
A Trichologist can check your hair if you're concerned, there will be a charge for this service.

Most hair transplant clinics should be able to foer this, however they may have a fee to do so. Call a few up and ask them.

Hi all,
Very interesting discussion. I actually can really compare my hairs to the pics of Aza (though I am older 36yo). I can't really say when started the thinning.

Aza, I would be extremely interested if you would be kind enough to give an update of your situation and the results of the doctor diagnosis.

Thank you
