Hey, I just noticed that I can sometimes see my scalp (specifically when my hair is cut short. I've included multiple pictures and lightings, also wet and dry. Does this look like vertex thinning/diffuse thinning specifically on the sides and back? The top appears to be full/thick.

In addition to this, the picture with the red circle is actually one I found from 2017, so its interesting to see that I had the same problem then but never noticed it until recently and started freaking out....

Did the 60 second combing test and lost only 1 hair, which seems low (10 is the threshold) anybody know how accurate this is? I'm really nervous that I'm losing hair.

It seems that you can see my scalp in certain lighting and angles but then it moves depending on the lighting or angle, which is really confusing.

I have always had extremely thin/fine hair, for what it's worth. That could also explain why I only lost 1 hair during the comb test since my hair is naturally very thin.

Dad has no hairloss at age 50, but maternal grandpa did lose hair.

Hairline seems solid, hasn't changed since 2017 (I have compared pictures)

Does this look like thinning or am I good? I've been freaking out these last few days trying to find an answer but I don't really know many people with similar hair type as me (very fine and thin, which may be contributing to this?)

For what its worth, i have been told by my barbers for the longest I can remember that my hair is extremely fine and thin and also very straight, which could explain why (when cut short), it shows my scalp? Its just odd because the top is longer and I don't really notice any thinning (as shown by the dry and wet pictures), but the thinning appears on the sides and back? Doesn't MPB start with the top? Or hairline? My hairline is solid as well, and hasn't changed (have old pictures to compare that, something i've always watched).

It is difficult to say looking at your pictures. The crown does appear to be thinner than the surrounding hair which could indicate some MPB. It could be your hair has always been like this but if you need reasurance I would schedule an appointment with a hair transplant doctor or trichologist to have it checked for miniaturisation. If you do have thinning, ask about medical therapy intervention. Don`t agree to anything there and then. Take the advice, go home and research. Maybe update here what you were told. How old are you?

19. Didn't notice this until I cut my hair short, for what its worth. I can't really see any sort of thinning on the top where my hair is longer. I have a few older pics that I can kinda see some similarities, and my hairline is solid, hasn't changed since 2017. I actually knew about balding when I was younger and took pictures of my hairline and it hasn't changed. However, I always thought MPB starts with your hairline rather than the hair in the back so I never took pictures of the back. Another thing I forgot to include, wherever the camera angle is pointed, on the head, at least on the parts that are short, will appear to be thinner (not sure why this is). I even tested this and pointed the camera at the neck part of my hair, and had the same problem, where my neck hair appeared a lot thinner than the hair above.

From what it looks like in the pictures, it seems to be your normal hair. However, please do visit a doctor for an in-person check-up to see if in fact, you are losing hair due to Androgenetic Alopecia or not. The doctor can prescribe you Finasteride in case you do have androgenetic alopecia and this medication will completely prevent the progression of baldness. and also increase the density on the crown.

Angles and lighting play a part in how we see the hair, especially in pictures. A picture can make it look better or worse depending on the above. Flash will pick up more scalp.
As Eugenix mentions, it could just be how your hair is. You could ask a family member to take a look.

Update: I went to a dermatologist, I believe they used a microscope and checked for miniaturisation in that area (I'm not exactly sure, but they used some tool) and told me the hair looked normal. I've let it grow out since then and I was wondering if this looks normal? I definintely haven't noticed the crown worsen in the last 6 months, so is that a good sign? That being said, I know that longer hair masks any thinning, so I do think I have some very very mild crown thinning and probably some thinning in the frontal third as well.

Here are some pictures of my hair now. Does it look like I'm diffuse thinning? My hairline has not moved in the last 6 months either, but I do feel the hair on top has gotten thinner... I ordered Finasteride from Keeps and am going to start it as soon as I make sure I'm healthy (have a liver condition).

Attached are when my hair is in its worst condition - wet + under as harsh of studio lights I could find, and also combed back in order to expose any thinning

I believe my hair is thinning mostly in the front and back, but people have told me I have nothing to worry about. Maybe it's just in my head, but I don't know. I'm probably going to start Finasteride just to be on the safe side.

Additionally, here is a picture of my crown when I was 15 (About 5 years ago exactly), which I think looks pretty similar to now (barely any change)

Finally, the close up image is of my crown, when it is dry and combed, under harsh lighting

I just don't want to be one of those people who is in denial about their MPB and waits to start on treatments, as I'm obviously going to regret once my hair inevitably worsens

Your hair looks ok in these latest pictures. It’s possible you just had more hair shed at certain times which may make it appear thinner. I’d just monitor your hair for now. Take pictures every 6 month and compare.
