NHS Suture/Stitches Removal?

Hi all
Im booked with Dr Bisanga for FUT later next month.
Dose anyone know if the NHS make a charge for stitches/sutures to be removed? I rekon they might! I went for a blood test, blood count, h.i.v, hep b test. and they wanted £160 as soon as they knew what I needed it for! they must think im loaded!
I may start updating my progress through the months on there after the op

I've been to the walk in centre twice, first time they were great and really intrigued that I'd had a HT. Second time I had a stroppy head nurse who said I should not be there as its cosmetic surgery although she still removed them. Third time I made an appointment with the nurse at my Gp surgery, she removed them no problem.
You could always say you were in an accident and just don't go into details with them.

I too went to my local walk in centre in fact i have visited two different ones and had no problems at all with either....they were very interested to be honest and very friendly and happy to take them out

Thank guys, I will make an appointment as soon as I get back from Brussels. and Thanks Bigmac! I hope it goes well too, pretty scared about the whole thing to be honest! i have confidence in Dr Bisanga and his team just, don't know if i can handle a year of waiting or something going wrong unknown to me right now. i think i will pay the extortionate £160 for bloods before i go just in case there is anything wrong with me lol!!

by the way guys, are there any special tools needed? i know Dr feriduni supplies a special tool

You will be fine, Dr Bisanga is a great doctor. The hospital or doctors will have staple removers, if you get sutures they just snip them.

As said, NHS should be well suited to remove the sutures and at no cost.

The doctor will advise 10 to 14 days to be removed depending on size of strip taken and closure and you will have instructions on how this is to be done but should not be a problem for NHS and most patients go to them or a few may go to private facilities.

I have pulled out my own stitches from a leg wound I had about 20 years ago and I had a girlfriend take out stitches from a strip procedure. She told me she removed stitches from a procedure her cat had €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦..lol €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦..sounded like she was qualified to me and she did a good job. I have also had my mother pull out stitches for me. Really pulling out stitches is fairly simple but of course have a doctor or nurse do it for you and you will be fine.

I would be more concerned that you already seem to be experiencing some anxiety about having to wait the time required for the result. That €™s not a good thing in my opinion as the wait is long so one must have the patience.


Personally for me I didn't really look except for updating once a month. Just kind of got busy with whatever I was doing.

thanks again guys at least I know now that its no big deal and not gonna cost an arm and a head! thanks topccat, being a cat obviously has its perks then!! yes the wait will be tuff just hope that im a fairly fast grower and/or maybe I will get to a stage that it wont bother me being bold with a scar! summer has gotta be tuff tho
