Post-op hats

Hi. I've read different accounts of the advisability of wearing hats after surgery. On the one hand, wearing any sort of hat less than 14 days post-surgery risks damaging the newly implanted grafts, on the other, it's necessary to wear some sort of covering to protect the grafts from sun, wind, etc. Who is right? Also, if it is possible to wear a hat, what is the minimum time one should wait and what sort of covering who be best? Thanks.

I wore a loose fitting ball cap straight after surgery. I travelled from the US to the UK wearing it. Approximately 12 hours I had it on with no issues. Then I was inside at home so never wore it again until day 5 when I was out and about. If you want to wear a woollen type hat I would wait longer, maybe 10 days. Some say they do not want your head to sweat while other do not see it as an issue.

Thanks for the response, Bigmac. I take it when you say "loose fitting" that the cap never came into contact with the newly implanted grafts (your surgery was on the crown, right?)

Most were my crown but I did have my hairline and temple corners strengthened. The hat was loose and sat above the transplanted grafts.

It's not good to wear had straight after hair transplant surgery , you have to follow the instruction of your surgeon...
