Propecia Advice - Blood Test / DHT results included....

Hey folks.

I've bitten the bullet and decided to jump on Propecia to at least try it out and see if I'm OK with it. My cousin's been on it a month now and he's perfectly fine with it.

The reason for this post is because I've just had some blood test results come in and I wanted to share them to see if anyone could offer any advice on what they see in relation to whether i'm in a good place to start the drug.

All my results have come back in the normal range. However I am now a little concerned seeing some on the lower end of that normal range - one being DHT, as I understand that Propecia can lower this by as much as 60%:

TESTOSTERONE: 17.4 nmol/L (normal range: 7.6 - 31.4)

OESTRADIOL: 106 pmol/L (normal range: <192)

FOLICLE STIM. HORMONE: 2.8 IU/L (normal range: 1.5 - 12.4)

LUTEINISING HORMONE: 7.1 IU/L (normal range: 1.7 - 8.6)

FREE TESTOSTERONE: 0.33 nmol/L (normal range: 0.30 - 1.00)

SEX HORMONONE BINDING GLOB: 35 nmol/L (normal range: 16 - 55)

DHT: 1.36 nmol/L (normal range: 0.33 - 3.01)

I appreciate that none of you are doctors and that the advice given here is not professional. But I also trust that there are a lot of you on here who have done considerable research on the subject and maybe your own blood tests to be in a position to provide good advice from knowledge and experience.

Any feedback would be hugely appreciated.

Hi Jonny.
With the tests coming back as normal I think you should be ok to try it. Most people start using it without any tests.
Hopefully, a doctor will pop on and answer your question.
All the best.

Hi JonnyL,

As bigmac has stated, most people don't get tests done prior to getting on Propecia. Considering your test came up with normal ranges, you should be fine to start, imo. The doctors I've worked for have said in the past that anyone with concerns about side effects is to try the Propecia with a smaller dosage until they feel they can work their way up to the recommended dosage.

Will get back to you after checking with Dr. Ball to get his opinion.

My blood results were similar to yours with no problems using Finasteride.
