scalp beard chest hair types

Ok so was very bored one evening and decided to pluck a few scalp and body hairs for the comparison,the pic you will see when uploaded later will be as follows:

1st:beard hair
2nd:mid scalp hair
3rd:donor hair
4th:transplanted hair
5th:chest hair

My views are..

Beard is very course which is to be expected.

Mid scalp is showing miniturisation when compared to a donor hair.

Donor hair nothing to say really other than a perfect healthy hair.

Transplanted hair looks 100% like a donor hair except for the C shape curl thing going on,i dont know why its not straight??

Chest hair kinda like scalp hair except for the kinkyness.

I dont have a pic but my abdomen hair look like scalp hair, straight and smooth.

The mid scalp har certainly looks thinner then the rest, did you pluck a few from there to compare.

Good thread,

Something that should be taken into consideration when thinking of using BH in restoration, the difference in calibre, coarseness, sometimes colour when mixing and blending with scalp hair. Also the fact that most BH is single hair FU, a few lucky guys have 2,3, very very rarely 4 hair, with around 80% being singles.

Hi bm i plucked only the one mid scalp hair,it is from an area the size of one inch wide by four inchs in length,the rest of my head is perfect,the area i was referring to above is an area that always seemed less dense and thinner,i looked back on old profesionally done family photos,i was 16 in these pics(am now 26) and the lighting from above made this thin area stand out clearly even at that young age,i only atarted rogaine in this area 2 yrs ago and .5mg eod of propecia last yr,the area is unchanged pretty much since 16,i will send you a pic bm if you could resize it for me again it would be great thanks.

Cool thread... In my opinion, your views are really on point... and the one that struck me the most was the transplanted hair that you plucked which you said had a C shape curly look. This is actually something that is debated over and over.... It turns out that sometimes... the technician while implanting a graft... needs to sort of place the graft... pull it out slightly and place it back down inside the slit. The reason is... is because if the bulb of the follicle is bent at the bottom of the slit... the hair will grow curly.

Now there are two theories about this fact.

1. The Follicle will straighten itself out over a long period of time.

2. The follicle will remain "kinked".

I cannot say with any confidence and with biology background less a medical degree say if #1 or #2 is true.

Stephen has an obvious point to most people who have been in this industry for a while which has to do with caliber, color, and numbers of follicles per graft in body hair.

I will only disagree in his post that body hairs (chest or below) are more like 95% more 1's in patients (taken into account all races from whites to indians).

Here is sort of a crud explanation of why a graft will grow kinky or not if improperly placed. Please excuse the my poor artistic drawing. ha ha.

This first Picture is a slit made for a 1 haired graft before the graft is transplanted.

This last picture is where upon a graft is placed almost folded upon itself thus theoretically growing in a kinky manner.

That is actually a great visual explanation,so simple and makes sense, i cant see how a hair follicle would ever straighten when placed like that tho.

How is this as a donor?

I've researched body hair for the last several years, seen some pretty amazing results and some pretty awful ones too. Body hair from the chest should be used as a filler to scars or low density blending into native hair.

What Is your Hairloss situatuation? Where are you wanting the hair?

My situation, screwd up, nw6, good body and beard but not sure abt the whole thing, as you said some results are amazing the others are dissapointing. More and more docs are using body and beard hair these days which is good.
Thinking abt HST...and maybe combining it with body/beard to get coverage asap.

Bananaman you have a bodyhair donor jackpot. Always a good idea to just go slow if you do decide to use it.

true that I have lots of BH and beard is awsome, ill use it wisely when i decide to go fo it, I rely heavily on BH since my donor as nw6 isnt good thats why Im hoping HST works as advertised.
Have you considered HST, I dont know wht your situation is but donor regeneration sounds apealing especially if you are high NW. Im thinking of giving it a gho with small session and if it aint regenerating I can always get some coverage with BH combo.

Bananaman having body and beard hair is not enough, it does have to be a close match to your existing hair otherwise it would just look bizarre in my opinion and I have seen plenty of bizarre body/beard hair results.

My opinion on Gho is that I have not seen any substantial proof over what is going on 10 years now. Would I ever be interested in trying something with no proof that it works, no. Outside of that please tell me how many Gho patients have you seen that you just looked at their result and were literally speechless and completely in awe at what was before you. I have been around for a fairly long time as well as some others and my answer to that question is zero.

I would also add that in my opinion some doctors that spend too much time on new treatments or faster more profitable ways of doing things are probably better left just focusing on that aspect of hair transplantation and not so much on believing they have the artistic skills that are required to actually perform the procedure. I don €™t say this to preach but this is something I honestly believe.
