SMP used to camouflage FUE punch scars - Vinci Hair

Here is an example how scalp micro pigmentation can camouflage FUE punch scars.

- is this permanenet smp?
- how many sessions did this patient need?
- how much time have passed since? Is there a sign of fading?

Hi Paleocapa89,

To try to answer your questions:

- Yes, this is permanent SMP, any SMP will fade over time but we find with follow-ups with our clients it can last quite a few years before fading to a level it needs touching up; we offer a 12 months guarantee as a minimum.

- This was after 4 sessions spread over a few months.

- The "after" picture on the right, after his 4th session, was taken at a follow up 4 months later; we did work on another area, his crown, but not the FUE scars. We have not seen him since and that was around August of 2014.

Thanks James, treating FUE scarring is generally easier than strip/FUT scaring, as the scarring generally limited to a smaller area; but has it ´s own demands.

Excellent results, can't see any scars in the after picture.

Do you know how many grafts were extracted in the client and the punch size? It is covered brilliantly, is this a common outcome on fue scars?

How soon after a fue procedure could smp be undertaken on the donor area? When would you know you are healed with out shaving the hair down

Hi Raider,

The punches went from one side of his head, around the back to the other side, judging by how many were obviously visible over 1000 FUE extractions were made. If you mean is scarring a common outcome from FUE, with any surgical procedure scarring will occur, it comes down to how visible it becomes. If a small punch is used and with long hair even brushing through scarring can be hard to detect, unless areas have been over harvested. But when the hair is very short even smaller scars become that more visible, with a white dot contrast to the surrounding skin.

Visually FUE scars heal quite quickly, but time needs to be given for the skin to heal, especially if a large procedure is performed. It would be best to wait 6 months plus before performing SMP to camouflage the scars, maybe even 12 months.

Would it be difficult to do the touch ups as the fue extraction holes will be much harder to see the next time round i would imagine?

Hi bullitnut,

After the first session the time between the next can vary from around 10 days to maybe 1 month, largely to allow the skin and pigment to relax and see any fading in the pigment ideally leaving it slightly longer as a better result can be achieved. Many times the SMP techs will use loupes to magnify their view and be more accurate with the placement of the pigment.

Generally if there is so little change that it ´s not visible for the eye then a touch-up would not be required, it ´s only when the pigment fades to a degree that is is noticeable that a touch-up would be performed.

Hi Raider,

Treating hair transplant scarring with SMP, be it FUE or FUT scars is much harder then treating virgin skin with pigment. The tone can take differently to the skin, sometimes fading faster and needing a darker tone than the surrounding hair colour to make the match. On occasions more sessions are required to build up a sustained match.

If the scarring is raised this is something that SMP cannot improve the look of, it can still break down the appearance of the scar, but not the raised skin, and a treatment like fraxel maybe best to be performed first.
