SMP used to camouflage punch grafting scars

Here is a case where the man had old punch grafting, because of the size of the cylindrical scars and their relatively close proximity to each other, even with longer hair makes it hard to hide as they greatly reduce the hair density in the area.

The pictures from left to right, show before, immediately after SMP and once the tone and skin have relaxed.

These results looks awesome. Is there any chance you could upload a high quality after photo close-up?

Also in your opinion, is there anything the patient could have done to his scars that would led to an even better outcome? like fraxel, microneedling etc?

Hi Paleocapa89,

I answered a question about cobblestoning and SMP in another thread and suggested that using Fraxel first could benefit. Generally FUE punch scars are different to cobblestoning, they are flat. I am not an expert of Fraxel but understand it was developed not so much for scars but wrinkles, stretch marks, but has shown to help some type of scars, and surgical scarring. There are many considerations that can measure your suitability, depth and size of the scar, flat or raised.

I think it is worth you looking into Fraxel or similar; scars change overtime also without any treatment so while researching your scalp is still healing, so don ´t rush.

Great result!, i know people require periodical touch ups, but does the times vary between normal scalp skin and scar tissue.....what i mean is does it fade quicker on scars?

Hi bullitnut,

This patient had his second session approximately three weeks after his initial session as he noticed a little fading. His third session though was almost 6 months later and that was near a year ago now; we followed up with our client a couple of days ago and he's still happy with his result and said there has no been any change in the tone.

Placing pigment into scars is certainly more demanding and can take more sessions over time to reach the desired result. We will start with a slightly lower tone and gradually build up, the time between sessions can vary also compared to virgin skin, so really every case is individual.
