Subtle micropigmentation vs scalp micropigmentation?

Hi everyone, I've not had SMP done on myself yet, but am looking into it after I've had a hair transplant, but that's for another thread. I'm looking into which clinics to have the SMP, and Brandwood clinic gets mentioned a lot as being one of the best if not the best in the UK. I like the look of their gallery, but one thing I notice is that they have very noticeable dots sometimes quite large and this almost gives it a 3D "popping" effect. I'm just wondering how natural this may look and whether or not it would look the same months after treatment. I've also heard from other SMP practitioners in the US (scalp logic) who advise against larger significant dots and advocate something called subtle micropigmentation because it looks more natural and similar to an actual shaved head. They say that the larger "3D" dots can look great at first but once absorbed can look a bit unnatural. Just wondering what people's opinions are, and does anyone have any links to or post themselves if they had SMP with the more significant dots, I'm especially keen on results after several months at least and not immediate. Thank you.

Hi mate
Yes I've been to a couple of smp clinics in uk and I've seen the big dots u mean
Also it's the big dots and the big space between them that looks unatraul
I think subtle tiny dots is the best regards to looking natural
Also I think the trichopigmation is better than the perm smp
Reason it just looks more softer and natural, but I'm not sure why

Hi, yeah I agree especially if the big dots are spaced apart then it seems very unnatural. I haven't really heard of trichopigmentation, do you what the difference is between that and the permanent SMP?

The tricho is temp last about 12 to 18 months
I've heard it looks more natural cos colour is more of a ash brown colour
Also with the trichopigmation it disappears completely

Thanks for the info mate, do you know what UK clinics do tricho as opposed to SMP?

I don't know much about SMP but Phil's approach sounds good - if it's temp then you can always treat it as a bit of a trial to see if it meets your expectations? If you end up not liking it you know it won't be permanent.

Do the clinics do smaller test areas? Could be worth getting a smaller patch done somewhere less noticeable initially, then doing the rest once you have happy with it?

Alternatively, could the clinics arrange for you to meet some previous clients, so you can see it up close?

As with all these things it's a big decision but sounds like you are doing lots of good research. Good luck and hope you manage to get the result you want
