Synesthesia and fue

Something I am reading currently covers this topic and I thought it would be interesting to post here.

Synesthesia is the ability of one sense to stimulate another with the hand brain connection being one that is very deeply wired in humans. Most artists tend to think in visual terms during the process giving them the ability to bring their art to life and this process absolutely depends on the sensitive feel of the finger tips being involved. Others can smell a sound or taste a color, etc.


With fue I would imagine those achieving extremely high yields with the handpunch can actually see with their fingertips.

It is estimated that only 4% of the population are Synesthetes. This makes sense and it could very well apply to hair transplantation. I would say that same number 4% or less are able to see with their fingertips and the same reason so many have given up on the handpunch in the past. Of course this is only an observation on my part. I see many doctors even today harp on about low yield with fue. They might not understand they are not in the 4% which does not make them bad people they just need to have it explained to them.

Interesting idea that I think has some merit. For instance, my eyes tend to smell something while reading this.:T:

Yes it is funny when you really think about it.

Kind makes the idea of recommended lists with dozens and dozens of doctors laughable.

Only if one thinks that there are only two or three doctors in the entire world that are worth considering because they have eyeballs in their fingers.

The sensitivity of their fingertips creates a visual picture in their mind. The constant repetition over years and years makes that touch second nature for them. Through that feeling they can sense what is right for each individual patient by the picture they are forming in their brain.

Just my opinion though............ others should research history and see what they come up with and form their own opinion.............become your own expert.

2 or 3 doctors.............hmmmm.............I don't know about that one........maybe 4 or 5 ;)

It's interesting how the blind can see with their finger tips.............I'm sure it takes a great deal of patience and practice and thankfully all of us here are blessed with eyesight as it puts losing hair in perspective. I remember when one of the hairloss forum owner's lost his eyesight...............hair and everything about it no longer mattered.

There is an interesting article online about "Seeing with the Tongue" that appeared in "Psychology Today". Here is an excerpt. When you are reading Braille you are seeing with your fingertips. I suppose there are people that don't believe this is possible and those same people don't do much reading.

Surprisingly, adult brains are still able to reorganize themselves. Consider Braille, for instance, which shows how latent cross-sensory connections exist in everybody. When newly blind individuals learn Braille, the brain area corresponding to their reading finger greatly expands. Now blind, their visual cortex (V1) is unused. Plasticity lets new working connections reach out to sites in unused visual cortex to switch its functional assignment from seeing, to feeling Braille and subsequently "reading" it. Not many years ago orthodoxy declared such changes flatly impossible.


What surprises most people is that this kind of plasticity happens in normally-sighted individuals. For example, blindfolded for only two days, a volunteer's visual cortex activates when he feels with his fingers, or hears tones or words. Two days is far too short for new synapses to grow from the brain's touch and hearing areas into V1. Furthermore, removing the blindfold for a mere twelve hours reverts V1 so that it once again responds solely to visual input. One explanation for such astonishing malleability is that the brain's sudden, reversible ability to "see" with the fingers and ears depends upon dormant connections from other senses that are already there but never used so long as the eyes input a signal. The above kinds of experiments show that all of us harbor untapped multi-sensory potential.
