Nizoral allegedly has some benefits as a scalp DHT inhibitor. But i'm not sure if that derives from the fact it was used as part of the Minoxidil study, or there have been any stand alone trials to prove its benefits.
Either way, any benefit won't be bringing your crown back unfortunately. At most it will abate further loss to a small extent.
I've been using Regain foam since it came out. I used to use the liquid but it made a mess of my hair, making it look greasy and unwashed. The foam is far better for me aesthetically at least. I doubt you get the same level of scalp penetration £ for £ as the liquid, especially if you still have a reasonable amount of hair in the locations. But ultimately that doesn't matter if like me you end up missing applications of the liquid when you're going out/etc. So I just apply a bit more of the foam, allowing for the fact some will end up on my hair instead.
However, even Regain is only going to slow down or at best stop your loss. Aside from a transplant, I believe the only medicinal option to actually get some hair back is Finasteride. Unfortunately I'm one of those that suffered the notorious side effects so had to stop using it after 6 weeks. Fortunately the side effects went away after i'd stopped using it for a while. Some places now offer topical Finasteride, but its unclear how much ends up going systemic. If it does build up systemically, then I guess i'd get the side effects from that as well. But i'm considering giving it a shot, if I can find a reliable/trustworthy source that ships to the UK.
Whatever you choose to do, best of luck. It's not a pleasant place to be, but there are no perfect answers. Either live with it, or go for one of the imperfect options to buy time in the hope a "cure" eventually arrives.
