Most everyone is familiar with the saying €œgarbage in, garbage out € for better health but do they follow that rule? The ISHRS is a promoter for healthy eating as your hair and scalp are greatly affected by what you ingest (or lack). So here are some healthy hair tips that can be controlled through your diet.

If you tend to diet frequently, you could be depleting your body from protein and iron both vital foods for healthy hair.

Here is a general guideline of food for healthy hair that can help promote strong healthy hair and may prevent hair loss:

Meat €“ eating lean meat not only provides the protein that your hair requires but it also increases your iron. Women with an iron deficiency tend to experience hair thinning or hair loss. So make sure you include protein in your diet.

Eggs €“ Rich in protein but also a good source of B vitamin Biotin. Hair shedding has also been linked to a deficiency in biotin.

Dark Green Vegetables €“ Spinach, broccoli and Kale to name a few are packed with vitamins A & C which help in sebum production, the natural oils produced on the scalp.

Avocados €“ High in Omega-3 fatty acids help moisturize your hair and scalp promoting hair that is silky and shiny. Don €™t like Avocados? Try salmon or nuts like almonds and walnuts.

Oysters €“ These provide a good source of Zinc that helps the production androgens. Other good sources of Zinc are clams, lean beef and liver.

Blueberries €“ These are widely known as the €œsuper € antioxidant food. They are very high in Vitamin C that aides in a healthy scalp

Beans & Lentils €“ These provide not only a source of protein but also iron, zinc and biotin which is needed for strong healthy hair.

Calcium €“ Make sure you include calcium in your diet. This important mineral is good for your bones and your hair.

B-Complex helps keep hair healthy and shiny and strong. Kelp facilitates hair growth. And it is also a fantastic phyto-nutrient. Both are good together or separate. But use a quality brand from a health food store, not cheap junk.

Following the guidelines would improve not only the hair but your overall health too. I need to be better about following them.

Thanks for posting!

Very good. I always soak nuts before eating them and sprouting seeds also is very good.

Most of the nuts here in the States are now either irradiated or pasteurized by law so sprouting them is probably not going to be an option. One can purchase almonds from a select group of small farmers who were exempted. The price actually is not that much different and the only extra step would be to order them and have them shipped to your door as most are located in California.

The big outfits tried very hard to have the law apply to all knowing that the small guys would simply have to go out of business as the initial cost of adding irradiation/pasteurization would put them out of business. Plus word does gets around €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦some become informed and simply do not want to eat irradiated nuts/seeds. Not the majority but certainly a growing minority and they fear the minority informing the majority.

Most in my opinion simply do not understand the irradiation/pasteurization issue. It €™s about lowering cost for big manufacturers. It €™s much cheaper to provide a less healthy product and basically kill it so it can sit on a shelf for an extended period of time without going bad add a little fungicide and you are good to go. Trying to convince someone of this is of course very difficult. Same applies to a product like dairy €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦people have this illusion that by killing it, somehow it will be safer. Most of this information is drilled into a person €™s head at a very young age through the school system. Hopefully more will become better informed.

I have been sprouting broccoli seeds for years. If most understood the potency of spouted seeds and nuts they might take the time as it is cheaper than chemotherapy.

SL it is very, very bad here but most are simply unaware. The book I am currently reading is €œAltered Genes, Twisted Truth € (How the Venture to Genetically Engineer Food Has Subverted Science, Corrupted Government, and Systematically Deceived the Public) by Steven Druker. It €™s a good example of how systems become completely corrupted and since I often post on information systems it would actually be a good book for a prospective ht patient to read. Not much we can do about it except become educated and self aware for not only ourselves but our families.

He gives a very good analogy of changing one simple line of code in a computer software program and thinking it will not affect anything else down the line. Common sense would tell you that it is playing with fire and a price will have to be paid. Doing the same with the genetic code of food one can multiple that a few thousand fold. And to think parents are feeding this to their children without knowing. A very good example of simply not having enough information.

The book is well referenced but he also has a 2 part interview on Youtube with Dr. Mercola €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦it €™s very easy to listen to as he explains it in layman €™s terms €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦I highly recommend it.

There was an interesting fact in there that I didn €™t know. I was using the supplement tryptophan back in the late 80 €™s early 90 €™s when it was taken off the market. People were coming down with a disease newly named EMS and many in fact died. What I didn €™t know was that it was one of the first examples of genetically modifying a supplement/food. They wanted to increase production 10 fold so they altered one of the lines of code in the genes of the bacteria used to produce it. Since the product is unique in a way it was all easily traced but with food €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦ €¦.forget about it. One can never prove the cancer your child now has was from their morning cereal. They also never disclosed the fact that the supplement was genetically altered as that would have been bad for the business of genetically engineering food.

It's seems to be more profitable to just come up with new disease names here and offer treatment as opposed to finding the source.

Very scary stuff.
