FANSTASTIC EXPERIENCE WITH DR ACAR @ COSMEDICA

Wow where do i start.....

I am writing this from my bed as had my transplant yesterday and all went well, i slept like a baby too on my first night.

My whole experience at cosmedica has been brilliant, from the airport transfer despite landing at 1am Down to the treatment at the clinic and the pain management, cant really fault it.

I honestly cant believe how painless the whole thing was and i have had no pain since the op about 20 hours ago.

I had strip surgery back in 2006 in the states and i think I’m mentally scarred by it tbh......yesterday was a completely different ball game.....No pain!

I opted for VIP package as i wanted the doc to open the channels just like you would do at any top clinic.

To start you do your paperwork then They put canuler in for a drip during surgery and take blood for the PRP injections.

I went in the see the doc and discuss my surgery & hairline etc and previous scarring from strip, all was agreed and then onto the next stage. we decided to lower the hairline only slightly to retain density as I have a massive head, the doc has also made it more symmetrical than my first surgery with dr feller back in 2006 and even put a few grafts into the right side of my strip scar.

Just prior to the numbing I was given a Xanax and two other blue pills, not sure what they were but i felt pretty chilled all day.

The needle free anaesthetic was great and i likened it to a stapler in the back of the head.......pain about 2.5-3 out of 10.
Very tolerable indeed, the pain lasts for half a second then gone for each jet. After the initial needle free jets they then put in the proper anaesthetic which was done gently via needle, again very tolerable. This was completely different to my experience in America.

Then for the extractions, just a gentle whizzing at the back of your head......if it got a bit niggly during the op i would just tell them i could feel something and they would jab me more anaesthetic. This happened twice but really no big deal.

Then Dr Acar opened the channels for the techs to place the grafts. I was in the clinic from 8am till about 4.30/5 and walked out pain free. I received 3000 grafts in total.

All in all It was a great experience and i would do it all again in a heartbeat.

If your anxious or have reservations about going to turkey like i did, you have nothing to worry about....Cosmedica is a well oiled machine with patient care at the top of the list.

p.s. will add photos asap

Hi Tommy.
This 2nd hair transplant has been a long time coming. You`ve been researching it quite a while now.
It`s good to hear you had a very good experience, from being picked up and through the surgery process.
I`ve met Dr Acar quite a few times at various conferences. He always makes time to chat, a very nice guy.
I`m looking forward to hearing how many grafts you got and seeing the pictures.
All the best.

Hello Bri, yes a long time coming indeed mate, honestly is was awesome...…Id even say it was a pleasant experience.

I got 3000 grafts into the front 3rd, crown is still holding up with meds. Hairline lowered and made more symmetrical and Im pretty happy with it :)
0.6 to 0.8 punches used and the donor looks great, it was all very refined.

Hope your well mate!

Hi Tommy, looking good mate. 3000 is a decent number, it should produce a nice result. A pleasant experience, hope you're not going to become an addict for hair transplants.
I noticed your FUT scar, how long do you usually keep your hair as I assume you keep it covered?

Yes I keep it covered, the lowest I go is a number 4 on the back then let I grow for a month.....The front has always been a bit thin, so all being well the additional grafts will thicken it up nicely.

I just found the whole thing very easy...….the needle free anaesthetic worked a treat and made the actual needles a piece of cake.

I remember after my strip, I was in agony for about two hours or more and its really stuck with me.....With FUE I'm still waiting for any pain....night and day mate, I'm sold on it :)

Regarding the scar I may get a revision in future if the FUE grafts take....or plan B get SMP?

Sounds good Tommy. There is a knack to having the anesthetic injections, some docs will do it with minor to no discomfort while others aren't so gentle or you get the needle free option. I didn`t have any pain with my strips, just felt tight. I did not take any pain meds. Glad this FUE is causing you no pain.
Your scar could benefit from maybe some beard grafts in there, see how they grow and take it from there.
I'm looking forward to following your progress.

Looks good Tommy.

Who does the extractions in cosmedica? Do you know before you go or are you guaranteed the best team when you go with the VIP package?

Hi mate, the techs do the extractions and place the grafts......Dr Acar only made the incisions with the VIP package. I'm not sure how it works in other FUE clinics these days? Whether predominantly docs or techs do the labour intensive stuff...?

One would hope they are all trained up to his standard as his name is over the door....The tech who did my extractions was in her mid thirties for what its worth, all seemed very professional and the facilities were great but obvs the proof is in the pudding at the 12 month mark. Time will tell.

Thanks Tommy, the trend of the techs doing the extractions is becoming more and more common. It tends to go against what the elder statesmen on the forums would advise. I’m seeing loads of great results from Cosmedica hence the interest.

That's fine mate, if you want any finer details feel free to contact me......

Yes I agree, I have seen so many good results and reviews, I just decided to take the plunge as I have dithered for such a long time......and for the price its a no brainer for me.....I was quoted 10k for similar grafts in Belgium and I just couldn't justify it.

What I like about cosmedica is that its fronted by a Doc, a lot of clinics in Turkey are just that....a clinic, but saying that a friend of mine went with clinicana last march and has had an excellent result, all done by techs, supervised by doctors...….I'd like to think Turkey have the procedure nailed these days as there are so many guys floating around Istanbul with there head strapped up......its so common no one turns a blind eye.

Obvs there are better clinic than others, I think I chose a good one based on my research.

6 days post op......have to say the donor looks untouched by FUE at this stage...looks immense and feels great.....even my strip scar could pass for a childhood accident IMO which is a bonus :)

Call me biased, but I really like the irregularity of my hairline.....It looks natural.....I never wanted an aggressive hairline, it has definitely improved but not too silly.

Im very impressed by the refinement of the work at cosmedica

If this turns out the way I want it to, cosmedica and Dr Acar is a no brainer for the cost...

Hi Tommy. Sorry for the late reply to your update. Everything is looking good, your donor has healed quickly and I like your hairline design too. Hows the recipient site look now? Is it still red or has this healed quickly?

No worries mate....recipient has completely calmed down, no real redness now and the donor feels 98% healed also, apart from the odd itch and twinge, but really nothing to write home about.

Recent pics below and you can see my before pic which is why I wanted to add density....admittedly the hair is wet but obvs very sparse, fingers crossed I get a good yield

Thanks for your sincerity mate, I appreciate it......It was a great experience I have to say...….didn't do much sight seeing although went to the odd mall. Dr Acars clinic isn't central Istanbul so wasn't convenient for the centre and being bandaged up I didn't fancy the trek tbh. Met some guys there, who did lots of sight seeing as their clinic was central and they loved it.

Yes been wanting a second pass for so long but life has just gotton in the way, but better late than never :)

Yes the strip doesn't really bother me at all now tbh….Its currently No2 i'd say and no one really mentions it.....1 guy in work did wen I first went back and I just told the old childhood accident fib ha ha...….I'm really unfazed these days......I may well keep it short when it grows out but we'll see, just having the density will be such a bonus

Cheers pal

Hi Tommy, good to hear it`s all healing well. Those itches can drive you crazy sometimes but you have to resist scratching. I can see where you wanted the density adding, the graft count you got should make you happy I reckon.
All the best mate and keep us updated.

Hi Tommy. What problems did you experience with your previous FUT surgery? Was it really bad? I’m undecided on what are the best options for maximising graft numbers for coverage.

Hi Tommy. What problems did you experience with your previous FUT surgery? Was it really bad? I’m undecided on what are the best options for maximising graft numbers for coverage.

Hey Arnold, No major problems as such, I just have some negative memories from it, so apologies if I sound negative when I explain but I'm going to be straight.... I must stress this is not necessarily the norm.

I recall the anaesthetic being quite intense on the pain scale as obviously localised along the strip.

The surgery itself was relatively pain free apart from experiencing head aches throughout the procedure, which looking back I assume was from the taking of the strip and the additional tension on my scalp.

The worst part for me was couple hours after the surgery was complete, when I was back at the hotel....I was advised by the clinic to take pain killers when I got back to the hotel so I did, however by this time the pain had kicked in, so when I took the painkillers I was chasing the pain and not on top of it and it was pretty rough and it has stuck with me.

The swelling was pretty bad

Staples in the head for 10 days wasn't ideal either and the self removal wasn't pleasant.

For 6 months after, I was experiencing shooting pains along my strip scar/donor....obviously the tissues healing and the nerves knitting together.

By comparison, I am 1 month post op FUE and it is just night and day, I feel like I have had nothing done....I could of worked the next day if I had wanted to.....It is so much more minimally invasive than strip by a mile.

I had no pain at all

The anaesthetic was needle free and minimally painful....no grimacing when administered.

No pain post surgery

No shooting pains worth mentioning weeks after

It was just so much easier

However, I hear what your saying regarding maximising your grafts....I guess that depends on how much work you need doing.

I'm kind of glad I had strip as I suppose I have maximised a little with having one strip, however if I had my time again I would go FUE as I wouldn't of waited so long for a second pass.

This just my personal opinion an experience

Hope it helps

Regards

Tom

Hi Tommy. Appreciate the accurate reply. I wonder if the headache during surgery was due to the anaesthesia because by rights you should not feel a thing during any surgery. This is something I will have to contend with if I opt for FUT. The pain afterwards could be a problem ,, nobody likes pain but as you say, it could be down to not keeping on top of the medications.
I can see how the staples would be uncomfortable having them in your head for 10 days and then having to remove them yourself.

What did your doctor say was the cause of the shooting pains you experienced along your FUT scar? How does that same area feel now?

Apologies for all the questions, I just want to make the right choices. This FUE surgery sounds like it was a breeze for you with no trauma and pain.
I bet you end up with super looking hair when you reach the end of the growing phase.

Again, many thanks for replying.

Arnold.
