I have many questions (sorry!)
How old was the patient?
What did his family history suggest would be the progress of his loss?
Does he use medication to slow it down? Did you assess the total number of grafts that are available, and how long do you believe he can sustain the hair (assuming funding for multiple procedures)?
The patient has a family history of hairloss progressing to NW 5.
He is not taking Finasteride. I personally do not recommend finasteride due to its side effects.
He has started Gene therapy for hairloss using supplements and the Microneedling Resveratrol process.
-----------------
He has a another 2500-3000 fue grafts that can be taken from the scalp before it reaches a point where further thinning will be cosmetically noticeable.
He has another 5000-5500 grafts in the beard area that can be extracted in multiple sessions.
Apart from these, he has the usual armpit and upper pubic hair (another 1000 grafts); his chest hair growth is robust (2-3 inches long).
The patient is aware of this.
Special point in my consultation : I always tell the patient :
1. How many nature given grafts they have lost (an average NW 6 patient has lost 20,000 grafts).
2. His donor reserve - the total grafts he has that can be harvested and used for the scalp.
Its unfair to limit the graft estimates only due to the lack of ability of some doctors due to which they tell
much less number of grafts than what were lost in nature. Tell the patient how many grafts they have lost and then let them make the decision on how much they want replaced during transplant.
In my practice we routinely perform 7000-10,000 graft sessions (lasting over 3-4 days).
