Progress post FUE

Hello,

I can see throughout the site that there are several posts about how timing can vary person to person. Generally I've noticed that typically late growers don't really come to fruition and this has concerned me. Does anyone have a rough guide as to what someone can expect month to month following an FUE procedure - as an average guideline? It would be very beneficial for my mental health and acceptance. Again I reiterate that I DO understand that not everyone is the same I'm looking for a rough guideline.

Thanks,

Can you post some photos?

In my experience from two transplants and having followed a lot of other journeys, you will generally know if your transplant will succeed at 6 months. It's not nearly finished by then but if there are still significant gaps and just poor growth generally you are unlikely to have a successful result. Sometimes there are exceptions but it's quite rare.

Hello @ADVICENEEDED01, a rough guide to hair growth after a hair transplant, be it FUE or FUT. With a good yield on a virgin scalp is in the region of 95%. By about 9 to 12 months it is likely any transplanted hair is growing. The hair will be maturing at different stages over the initial 12 months and then beyond. While a cosmetic change may not be that obvious after 12 months. It is not uncommon for a person to feel changes to their hair quality and fullness. This can continue in some cases for a further 6 months. Even a second procedure, assuming the first was successfully performed. With no impairment to the skin. The growth rates should be similar. A rough guide.

It is also not uncommon for the crown hair growth to be a few months behind the hairline, frontal and mid-scalp. To fully grow and mature. Repair cases can reduce the yield and or take longer to fully grow and mature. Placing into scar tissue, for instance, ridging or old scarring can be more demanding and require maybe more leeway with expectations. Often a lower hair density placed can sustain a high yield. Going back at a later date to increase the density. Repair cases are very individual. As a result, best taken on a case-per-case basis as to rates and yield.

A few cases may buck the rough guide. They may grow faster and appear to be fully grown and mature way within 12 months. The same applies to poor yield. Normally the reasons can be isolated or at least given a high chance of probability. Maybe health, medications, or outside influences, maybe a skin disorder, scarring. Notwithstanding the procedure was not performed to the highest standard. Placing crushed grafts, transected follicles, etc. A biopsy can be of help in some cases. Hope that helps, good researching.

In my opinion months 7-8-9 are when most people see enough growth to have a rough estimate on how the result will be. There are always exceptions like early growers which seems to be increasing lately and then you have a smaller percentage who do take slightly longer. What’s your current situation?

Thanks,

I noticed missing a point in your initial post. Regarding the growth expectation from month to month, until the full growth is achieved.

After your procedure and healing over the first week or so. It is common for the transplanted hairs to shed. This can occur slowly over the first month, with general washing. Some find they keep much of the hair until around 30 days and then shed most if not all. The few keep the hair with little to no loss of the transplanted hair. Either way is not an issue. But, obviously nice to keep if the case. Assuming the hairs shed. The hair follicles enter a dormant phase for a couple of months or longer. The first growth starts around the three months post-op mark.

Often the initial growth is weaker in calibre compared to the quality of the donor. Occasionally the growth appears to grow at the wrong angles or directions. The amount of growth at this stage is minimal. This changes month on month with more growth. Also as each hair follicle matures in the new zone so does the quality of hair. For many, the large improvement is around the six-month mark. The density is filling in, If a hairline the definition is there. It is then a matter of any more hair growth coming through and the hair follicles continue to mature over time, as per our previous post.

Many thanks for your input this is exactly what I was looking for. At 3 months now, I have minimal improvement but I should hopefully start to see a lot more growth in the coming months. There seem to be a lot of posts from clinics with the best results and a full hairline by 6 months or less. I have been concerned that I should see more by now.

Apologies I won't be posting any photos at this point as I'm onto a second procedure and very nervous upon how it's going.

3 months into my 2nd op. Things seemed smooth and less redness lingering than the first procedure. Seems like there are not much more hairs than prior to the 2nd op, however hoping to see some come through now. There are too many posts suggesting improvements by this point which do make me nervous. In all honesty I'm not hopeful of a good result despite everything going smoothly so far. I am not a believer of results improving beyond 8 months from what I've seen but I am concerned at this point.
Let's see. But it's nice to hear that there are expectations from others that I should see some growth from now.

Won't be posting any photos as my mental wellbeing can't take enough of my own scrutiny at this point let alone from others. I will post towards the end of the result.

I can't unfortunately see above responses but appreciate yours. At 3 months now with only 3 months until the point you say you should have a fair idea. I'm not hopeful but let's see.
