I am not currently taking any medication, and I've not started on anything yet to improve my hair. This area behind my ears which extends to my temples as well has always been relatively weak in comparison to the rest of my scalp since my early teenage years. However when I started noticing thinning on top around a year ago it became apparent that this area on the sides was a lot worse.

These hairs only grow to a certain length then stop. I had long hair on top and back, but my sides were thin & short just because of the poor quality of hair, so it basically gave me a natural mullet.

As for the top of my scalp/ crown area. Thinning only began recently within the past couple of years. The typical, hairs falling out in shower/ pillow. Also had receeding/ high hairline develop by the time I was 19. This looks to be a classic case of MPB right? or does it look like more diffuse thinning?

I have looked up other cases of this and some people have mentioned auto-immune, deficiency in something or Thyroid issues? Would it be worth seeing a doctor/ dermatologist and getting a checkup/ blood test done?

I have now realised that I want to fight to get my hair back, I don't like my shaved look. Whatever issue is affecting my sides (whether it be retrograde or DUPA for example) does that also tie into my hairloss on top, or would it be separate?

In other words would Finasteride + Minoxidil in combination with something like dermarolling help my entire situation? Would I have to do it all over my head or would only the top area improve?

I am also thinking of going all out of introducing other things like stemoxydine, fluridil/ eucapil and PRP. Honestly this all depends on what the root cause is I suppose.

You could have a combination of things going on. MPB is the obvious but your thinning behind the ear could mean something else. Whilst it’s good to consider the meds I think you’ll need to see a HT doctor or a good dermatologist or a trichologist to establish the cause and try to reverse it.
