Are there any effects on graft survival related to speed of transfer from donor to recipient area

What effects are there in Graft survival rates if they were transplanted at varying times after removal from the donor area. For example if grafts were transplanted at say 30 minutes after extraction , 60 minutes, or an hour would the yield be different?

I don't think those time scales make much of a difference as long as the grafts are kept cool,in the holding solutions, I've heard of some clinics planting grafts within minutes of eyeing extracted.The grafts have a certain life whilst outside the body just like other body parts.

With our Direct technique the grafts stay out of the skin only for few seconds. Our research shows that with this technique the survival rate reaches up to 97%. The non traumatic technique, the proper instruments, the correct preservation of the grafts but also respecting the skin tissue during the procedure, ensure smooth healing and high graft survival therefore reaching very high survival rate.

Good question and in my opinion there is no clear answer yet.

Some claim high survival rate by virtually moving the grafts from the extrection site to the recipient site within seconds or minutes.
On the other hand we have Giga strip sessions that last up to 14 hours and have proven extremely high yields (like Hattingen and Hasson and Wong).

In my opinion I would say the less time a graft is out the body the more chance it has of staying healthy.

Good question.

There are papers showing that survival starts diminishing seriously after 8-10 hours remaining out of the nourishing tissue that is the skin.

This is why extraction and placement should be done in no more than 8 hours in total.
