Are there any medications that would rule out a HT or potentially cause problems Pre OP?

Always wondered this.....if a patient is taking certain medications can they mean they aren't candidates for a HT?

Obviously blood thinners like Warfarin and similar might be an issue but are there others?

For example could say Botox or similar react with the anesthetic injected into the forehead before a HT?

That's just an example but would be good to know a list of medications that could pose a problem for HT Surgeons pre op?

It depends on what the medication is and what it's used for. Usually it is just a simple matter of avoiding blood thinners as you said, including aspirin, but that is something to cease only two weeks before surgery as it takes about that long for platelets to be replaced. Experienced clinics will also require that one be off of Isotretinoin, aka "Accutane" for a minimum of six months and some clinics require no less than 12 months off it. Accutane wages a scorched Earth campaign on the skin and this affects graft survival and reduces growth.

Alcohol is another "drug" to avoid a couple of weeks prior to surgery as well as any cardiac medications but since the list can vary from clinic to clinic it isn't possible to make a definitive list that all clinics adhere to.

Thanks Joe that's very helpful. I seem to recall my brother using Accutane or something that sounded similar for his acne but could be wrong.

Cheers for the reply.
