Body hair and scarring..

No one has ever noticed them, they are still concealed by existing hairs on my chest. With my complexion no one will ever notice them.

However, I only had around 400 chest hairs removed. The true test will be when I go in for the next round, and this will likely consist of around 2000 or more removed. Then I will know more about what the white dot scarring looks like on a larger scale.

I can honestly say I am not the least bit worried about it. And if the tradeoff is a repair that allows me to go without a hat I will make this tradeoff gladly.

In the meantime, I will let you know over the coming months as my repair plan progresses, because, as someone once said, information not shared is lost. ;)

Hi Zionaxel
For me I waited a few weeks before shaving. I was really cautious to let everything heal as to not shave and cause any scarring etc. Poss 10 days or so you will be okay for a blade shave as long as you look clean from any irritation and the skin is smooth as to not cause any cuts.

Taking MSM could also speed up healing of the skin.

Hi Topcat..apart from beard hair as previously stared, I also had a patch test of 50 chest hairs some years ago [Feb 2007]. Growth was there and blended well to the point I can hardly point them out from my head hair, although 50 is only a small amount.

Chest healed quickly again and no signs of any scarring at all. I could not show you visibly where the grafts were extracted from as no signs of surgery present.

I hope this is encouraging.

Great thread! I believe that beard hair is the only way I €™ll achieve a decent result for my repair.

Stephenl, have you had any grafts removed from above your jaw line?

I wouldn €™t want to compromise my baby smooth face.)(_::

I haven't seen much white dotting on the body hair extraction but it does exist. However I have seen more on the scalp. Your beard hair extraction area looks good though wylie.

The patient below originally went to Dr. Harris in Colorado for several sessions 0f 500 bht grafts. I met him there when I worked there... Now he goes to Dr. Shapiro for small sessions. Just slowly adding hair to his destructed donor area from transplants from the 80's from the hair mills. He does not have any noticeable scarring. Where this thread pics up and where I met him is after 2 successful bht sessions. http://hairlossadvances.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1097&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Within reason, it depends on how much beard you are willing to give up, that compounded with the fact that some areas of the beard are much easier to extract from than others.

The side burn area and under the chin are certainly easier with less skin movement/flexibility therefore making transection lower.

I've had 600 grafts taken and potentially a lot more to take and would say safely a 1000 more without problem assuming they are taken randomly and thus not leaving any hairless patches. I think tops I could have 2000 grafts taken using the above prescribed method, maybe a bit more.

Stephenl... I have had numerous debates on numerous sites about the "pricing" of BHT. Most BHT's (not all but 90+% in my experience) are 1 haired grafts.

Obviously, 1 haired grafts do not have the impact of 2's, 3's, or 4 haired grafts. So there are two sides to a debate.

1. The price per graft should be markedly lower than a normal per graft scalp graft. however...

2. The BHT extraction has the same difficulty or more than an average FUE graft extraction so the price is warranted.

But the fact still remains that a 1 haired graft will not provide the density of a normal scalp 2,3, or 4 haired graft... And many times the coarseness of a BHT lacks that of a scalp hair.

To be honest Stephenl... not many folks ever comment on this debate... I hope you or Philb have an opinion.;;D

Hi hairtech

Both chest and beard hair when mixed with scalp make a good filler, or beard and chest together, my chest hair looks no different to scalp to be honest and is less coarse than beard hair, you can't even see a difference. When used in cases like mine it is extremely valuable to obtaining coverage.

There are less 3's and 4's granted and more could be needed for coverage but they still do give coverage. In my case the other option would be not obtaining coverage needed. So for me it is vital and acceptable to use. As for extraction, yes more difficult, time consuming etc so pricing is valid if higher as some clinics do automatically charge more.

The price point is totally subjective, you have some clinics out there charging 2 or 3 x's more for Strip or FUE than the average quality clinic does and feel justified. Not sure you can compare hairs as a justification for the cost, otherwise you would have to do it across the board in practice and on scalp hair cases charge variant rates per graft dependent on the number of hairs, feel sorry for the guy who has large groups and ends up paying a lot more for the same graft numbers as another.

I think it is proven that BH is a much less reliable source of hair than scalp, hence we like to do a test prior to any sizable procedure, the test being free. This then enables the patient to see the regrowth, the yield, the cosmetic effect of the growth and coverage; then come to a conclusion whether it is worth using. In my case it was well worth using, but in others they may not get the benefit I have achieved.
