Your son who is 21 should not get a transplant at this age because it will likely result in disaster for the future because hairloss doesnt just stop, it is progressing through your whole life, no serious clinic will accept someone who is 21.

Have you talked to some Dr about trying medication like Finasteride?

The only serious clinics in Turkey I would choose is FueCapilar, Dr Erkan Demirsoy, Dr Özlem Bicer, HLC Ankara, Dr Muttalip Keser, Dr Kaan Pekiner. I am pretty sure all of these clinics will decline him when you say his age because they are ethical Drs.

If you want you will find not so serious clinics(specially in Turkey) who will definitely do surgery on him because they are all after the $.

Thank you for taking the time to respond….I do fully understand what you are saying , however it is very upsetting to see a 21 year old not pubbing or clubbing with his mates ( as hats are not allowed) …I know 21 is young but his hair loss is already fairly extension & I therefore think as his mother it’s a balance between seeing his mental health & confidence improved & the future risks of further loss

Hi Katieloulou. I’m sorry to hear about your sons hair loss situation.
With your son being 21 there is a very high chance his hair loss will continue and he could be destined for a high Norwood pattern.

As Digi has mentioned, hair loss medications could be the solution. It’s also important to make sure there are no underlying conditions causing his hair loss.
Would you be able to add sone pictures? You can crop out his face.

I'm doubtful that any reputable physician would be willing to perform surgery on a 21 year old to be honest.

The psychological affects of having a bad transplant at that age could be far worse than what he's currently experiencing so I would advise having some consultations before going ahead with anything.

Thank you for answering…..he is already Norwood V …..he is aware it will probably progress but our view is that that hair has already gone ….we had a had various consultations who mostly have suggested doing a 2 step approach in order to keep some stock for later….it’s all very well waiting til he is 30 but it’s now that he does wants to fit & not look unusual

Did any of the consultations advise to try medications first? He could respond really well. He looks to be a diffuse thinner.
He still has quite a bit of hair that he really should hold onto. Hair fibres or similar could provide him with a temporary solution until the meds have had a chance.

I looked at the clinic you mentioned. They offer a lifetime warranty. That is not possible and a waste of paper. They say they use a 0.6 punch. Experienced clinics will vary on punch sizes to fit the patient. There is not one size fits all.

The address they use for the UK is Stevens tricology in Holborn. You may wish to ask them if they are working with this clinic and perform surgery on their behalf. Turkish nationals are not allowed to travel to the UK to perform surgery. Doctors have to be GMC registered.

Ok ….it’s the Turkish clinic I have been in touch with …..I’m confused about the London clinic??
many of the clinics have suggested he use meds alongside the initial transplant.
please could you recommend any reputable Turkish clinics ….unfortunately we can’t afford London but would be prepared to pay for more expensive Turkish clinics.
I really appreciate your help

I personally don’t recommend clinics. There are 4 that post their results on here which you can have a look at.
The problem you have is most clinics will not offer surgery. They can’t predict his loss pattern and while he may be happy for a few years. He could regret it if he ends up in a worse situation.
I really think you should consider the meds first. Yes, they have possible sides. A small percentage of people get them but the vast majority are ok. He may stimulate enough follicles that he does not require a transplant.
You could see his GP. Ask about Finasteride and Minoxidil. Finasteride is prescription only.
If sides are a concern, topical solutions that are claimed to reduce the risk are available from online outlets such as Forhims.

Try some different styling or hair cut options. The meds usually require a minimum of 6 months to see if effective.

As @Bigmac said its diffuse thinning and the clinics I said I would personally go to is in my opinion good options. I would say get a consultation with all of them and see what they respond, maybe they are willing to do a small procedure I am not sure.

Please becareful with the cheaper clinics who accept anyone, there can be a big risk something goes wrong and he is left in a worse position.

The thing I say is because if he becomes Norwood 6-7 he might need to shave anyways and when he then shaves his head say if hes 27 years old, he will have scars all over his head, when you are 27 you are still pretty young so you really need to think this through and its not a simple solution with hairloss because of the limitation with the donor area only being able to extract X amount.

Also a potential risk is if he does a hair transplant with alot of minituarized hairs, when he have active hairloss, is that you might end up getting shock loss and lose everything that is minituarized. This is why its often recommended to be on Finasteride for atleast 12 months before coming to any conclusion what to do.

I wish you best of luck, hairloss really sucks.

Out of curiosity, the clinics who agreed to perform surgery, how many grafts were offered and what was the placement/distribution plan?

At what age did your sons hair loss begin?

Your son will most likely get faster effect from medications than HT. Fue will regrow within 9month, by that time he will see result from 5ARI / minoxidil. In such situations, only hairpiece/wig/works faster.

Thank you for the photos and information. I know for you it must be very stressful dealing with this but as 21 your son has already diffused loss and throughout the top of the scalp and it is fairly aggressive for his age. He really would regret having surgery and especially if not on any medication.

For his age medication is the best route and see how he tolerates it firstly and then if it brings stability or even regrowth which is possible. There are also options with topical finasteride also if he prefers not to take it in tablet form and from the photos that really is the gut feeling on this and do not rush into surgery that he can regret.
