This is a case that will probably provoke a few reactions; it is a bad €œpigmentation € result, to put it mildly.

This gentleman approached us asking how to repair the poor €œpigmentation € work he received and living with, as obvious from the picture there is basically nothing right with any aspect of the work. In the vast majority of cases a repair or touch up is not possibly with SMP and the only option is to have it removed; we advised him the best course would be to undergo laser removal and that it would probably take between 6-10 sessions over a period of a year to get back to normality.

He later contacted us and said thanks for the advice but he had decided on a different route to go down; to everyone ´s surprise when we saw his photo.

A great deal is discussed about research and understanding what you are getting into, and it should always be an important topic to remind people of, and cannot be under stated. Truth, or what is the best solution for you is not about believing what you are being told, even if correct, but understanding what you are being told and why, and do what is required to qualify what you are being told.

Taking away bad hair restoration results a procedure can be performed to a perfectly high standard but if there is a lack of knowledge about what is possible and what cannot be achieved there can still be disappointment at the end result.

Understanding aspects such as the achievable hair density and coverage that can be achieved with a hair transplant, the importance of pigment quality and application with SMP, and hair line design and placement with either technique employed to name only three important points.

Understanding the limitations of any procedure is important, taking your time to gather the information you need to make an informed decision will go a long way to you making the right choice, and not having to live with life changing consequences you never dreamed would have to face.

Well thats a different approach to repairing a bad SMP, shame on whichever clinic did the SMP on him, it looks as though a kid had drawn it on his head.
Although the panther tattoo would not be my option it's good to know he is comfortable with it and done his research this time around.

Hi Phil (Vinci)

Out of curiousity and I am certainly not asking you to name names. Examples of poor work as illustrated in your first post are they undertaken by a Clinic who would be known to prospective SMP patients who do their research?

My friend who is a Tattooist regularly gets guys going into his salon Asking him how much he would charge for SMP? He always declines but he is getting asked much more frequently these days.

Hi Coopman,

Unfortunately he refused to say who did his initial work, so we can ´t say regardless.

Your tattoo artist friend sounds like he has got it right, SMP and traditional ink art are far removed from each other. You can look at a traditional tattoos, regardless if you agree with tattoos you can certainly admire the quality of work and art when performed to the highest standard. That doesn ´t mean one cannot move across, but the variant in skills are different, and also maybe the love of performing either process, which is very important.

His passion is in art and has no desire to change that to putting SMP dots onto peoples heads.

My point is that i am sure he is not alone as a Tattooist in getting these requests and i am quite sure there are people out there having SMP done by a regular tattooist without the required equipment to produce an authentic looking result.

There must be a lot of people who want this done, but just dont have the £3000 for it. There will always be someone who will do it for less without any consideration for the overall end result and customer satisfaction.

Hi Coopman,

It ´s great your friend is in his trade for the art, commendable; the passion is what is important, passion drives an artist to create something special.

Your point about regular Tattooists getting requests to perform SMP without the required equipment to produce an authentic looking result, I think speaks more about the regular tattooist that takes this on than about SMP as a technique; a regular tattooist that has his passion in art is unlikely to do a tattoo saying "Mum" across someone ´s knuckles, but there are those in the trade that will do it no problem, so I am guessing it is this type that would try to dabble in SMP, without the required equipment to produce an authentic looking result.

There must be a lot of people wanting many things cosmetic related because they are unhappy with their look, and that was the point of the thread; do not compromise, as you rightly said, there will always be someone who will do it for less without any consideration for the overall end result and customer satisfaction. It is a sad trait of not only the hair restoration industry but many others.

The danger of this is people do look at cost without researching correctly, regardless if SMP or a hair transplant, it is no different, either can be a positive life improving experience, but the flip side is making the wrong choice can have totally the opposite effect. So, getting back to the reason of the thread was to warn people in general how important it is to research before making the big decision, as the consequences can be huge, like the guy making the incredible choice to follow up with a cat tattoo over his head. Who knows if he is really happy, it is hard to understand how he came to his decision, and what he really thinks about it now.
